No. I couldn't stand the smell on dh's breath anyhow so nevermind drinking it. I had an alcohol free beer on holiday but it didn't do it for me. I'm happy to abstain in pregnancy, it's not worth it to me even if I could stand it.

seven201 · 31/03/2018 17:02

I had one or two small glasses a week when pregnant. It was my pregnancy craving. I didn't feel bad as I felt comfortable that such a small amount wouldn't cause harm. It's a very personal choice though. I also took antihistamines throughout for a dust allergy. Some people wouldn't and fair enough.

bonnyshide · 31/03/2018 17:04

No

Why on earth would you?

Thistlebelle · 31/03/2018 17:08

Didn't expect so much uproar off people

That’s rather disingenuous OP the first word of your thread title is “Controversial* and the whole post is worded to encourage debate.

If you’d said “no one knows I’m pregnant but there’s a big family celebration coming up do you think one glass of wine would be ok?” The responses would be entirely different.

Wishfulmakeupping · 31/03/2018 17:08

Before I realised I was pregnant I did so first 6 weeks of pregnancy I drank like a fish! As soon as I knew I stopped and felt sickeningly guilty for the whole of pregnancy in case I caused damage- I hadn’t dd is as bright as a button.
With ds I was trying so didn’t have a drop all the way through.

tappitytaptap · 31/03/2018 17:09

I had the odd one, same as most people here at weddings, xmas etc post 12 weeks in my first pregnancy. I'm about 12 weeks now with my second and once the nausea has passed, which has meant I've not felt like drinking anyway, I'll have the odd glass of bubbles (couple of weddings coming up). You could just carry a drink round OP, I did that at a dinner earlier this week with a glass of champagne and no one noticed (or at least, they didn't say anything if they did!)

CheesecakeAddict · 31/03/2018 17:09

No. I didn't think it was worth the risk. I didn't even drink whilst ttc.

Essexmummy88 · 31/03/2018 17:10

Yes I have. I was a big drinker before I got pregnant so obviously no where near as much but more than the one or two drinks for the entire pregnancy that others have said. A couple of glasses of wine a week.

Lmj25 · 31/03/2018 17:13

@Thistlebelle it wouldn't have mattered how I would have put it across it's a fact the subject is controversial.

And there is always going to be know it all stuck up busy bodies putting their 2 pence worth across no matter how it would have been worded 😊

I had one or two glasses a months after the first tri. There is no evidence that low levels of consumption cause harm. The riskiest thing I probably did when pregnant was cross a particular road. I was crossing with the green man, the size of a house and wearing a bright orange dress. But somehow a van didn't see either me or the lights until the last minute and accelerated towards the crossing. Pregnant women do far riskier things on a daily basis.

Thistlebelle · 31/03/2018 17:24

know it all stuck up busy bodies putting their 2 pence worth

Hmm

You aren’t having a private conversation with your mates where someone has rudely stuck their oar in LM.

You asked for opinions, on a public website. What did you think people were going to say?

Drink, don’t drink. It’s your baby and your decision.

But being rude to people who took time to answer your question isn’t really terribly productive.

Buglife · 31/03/2018 17:29

I’ve always thought people driving their babies around in the early days while on 2 hours sleep a night must be too dangerously sleep deprived to be driving safely, but you still get mums driving up to softplay etc. People make loads of calculated risk decisions around babies but some are always seen as so much worse.

Lmj25 · 31/03/2018 17:32

@Thistlebelle no I am asking for peoples experiences not to be dragged down by such people. I have been called an alcoholic etc even when I said I probably wouldn't, that to me is stuck up busy bodies

Wiith my first, i had a small glass of red on xmas day and a glass of champagne on NYE, both in 3rd trimester.
With my 2nd, only one glass of red, also in my 3rd trimester. I missed it very much though 2nd time around, but for me, i love a few glasses of wine and dont do sips, so id rather not have at all until i can fully enjoy

Lmj25 · 31/03/2018 17:35

@Buglife I agree a lot more risks are taken in day to day life but no one seems to blink and eyelid

OP posts:
Pinkprincess1978 · 31/03/2018 17:38

No. I know various health professionals have said yes and no to drinking over the years. I just didn't want to take the chance.

If I were you op I would drink a small coke or lemonade which would look like vodka and coke or a g&t.

restingbemusedface · 31/03/2018 17:41

A couple here and there - my 30th, my best friends wedding. Just a champers or a g&t. No harm done. I wouldn’t judge any woman for having a glass of wine in pregnancy and I don’t think anyone IRL does (other than Americans and mumsnetters)

Davespecifico · 31/03/2018 17:42

After about 14 weeks I had one small glass a week.

Lmj25 · 31/03/2018 17:45

@restingbemusedface you are certainly right there haha I've never know as many women downgrade others it's silly

OP posts:
troodiedoo · 31/03/2018 17:47

I had one or two glasses once or twice a week. I may have even had 3 on the odd occasion.

Use your common sense and you'll be fine. Drink slowly and with a meal.
Women of course can't be trusted to use common sense, hence the blanket advice to abstain Hmm

Rockandrollwithit · 31/03/2018 17:48

How would you feel if your baby turned out to be not healthy?

I have a baby with a congenital abnormality that needed surgery. No one's fault, just unlucky, but if I had drunk or taken other risks I imagine I would feel even more guilty than I do anyway.

StarkintheSouth · 31/03/2018 17:51

I had a glass of fizz at weddings I attended but sometimes couldn’t finish! I also had the odd tiny thimble of red wine at work events when it was something expensive being served! DD is fine.

sourpatchkid · 31/03/2018 17:51

I probably had one or two units every month or so. I very very rarely drink so the cries of alcoholism are ridiculous

FrangipaniBlue · 31/03/2018 17:52

I was slightly anaemic during my last half of pregnancy, the midwife told me that as well as taking the iron supplements a half of stout once a week would help Grin

this was only 10yrs ago too!
