Stretch marks

Morning everyone,

Im just looking for some advice on what creams everyone has used to try and reduce stretch marks as your bump grows? And at what point you started using them?

I'm only 9+4 at the moment but have felt my stomach start to get firmer but I'm not sure when to start creaming it or with what?

Any advice is appreciated Smile

Tia.

In all honesty. Nothing has proven to work. I got none with dc1 and got them with dc2 despite using biooil both times.

Greenhouseonthehill · 29/03/2018 07:24

Nothing worked for me. Genetics apparently.

I used Palmers CoCo Butter after a started showing and I haven't got any stretch marks but as PP said and my midwife it's luck of the draw and genetics.

stinksworth · 29/03/2018 07:32

Same here - genetics. I did use creams as they felt nice and soothed itchy skin later on in pregnancy, but got some stretch marks.

I used Mama Mio tummy rub butter from 5 months onwards in both my pregnancies and didn't get any stretch marks so I'm convinced it helped. It's about £23 a pot so not the cheapest, I bought it in John Lewis but you can also buy on line. I didn't spend a lot of money on maternity clothes just a couple of dresses, jumpers and two pairs of leggings so I felt 'ok' about buying more expensive bump cream :) )

I used it every evening after a warm bath whilst skin was still damp and from 7 months I used it in the morning too.

I spent hundreds, hundreds of pounds on Japanese Caledula oil stuff that Victoria Beckham swore by and Bio oil. My tummy is wrecked - just like my mum's.

thethoughtfox · 29/03/2018 07:39

They can make itchy tight skin feel soothed though.

littlebillie · 29/03/2018 07:44

I only got them in the three weeks and now a decade on I like them they are who I am. Don't let the marks worry you

GemmaLL · 29/03/2018 07:58

I am only 22 weeks but been using Bepanthen since about 14 weeks as it had good reviews on Boots. Probably is down to genetics though.

HansSolo22 · 29/03/2018 08:33

I used sweet almond oil from about 4 months into my first pregnancy and I didn't get any stretch marks. I'm 39 weeks pregnant with number 2 and haven't been so religious about using it but have used normal moisturiser on and off and I only have a couple of stretch marks! Avocado oil is also good apparently! I do think it's mostly down to luck and genetics though Smile

PointeShoesAndTutus · 29/03/2018 09:02

I tried bio oil and the palmers butter but both brought me out in a rash (despite having used bio oil for scars before, Hmm)

Now I use the Nivea in shower moisturiser in the shower and then just a regular Vaseline intensive care body moisturiser before bed.

I’m 30 weeks and so far have one stretch mark on my right boob.

FrangipaniBlue · 29/03/2018 09:05

I used baby oil while I was still wet out of the shower - I have no stretch marks on my stomach but as others have said it could be just luck of the draw!

I do have stretch marks on my legs from being overweight prior to pregnancy but they're very fine/not noticeable so probably it is just that I'm not prone to them?

Namechangemum100 · 29/03/2018 09:12

Another vote for genetics...I used coconut oil twice a day yet I have loads of stretch marks.

As my niece kindly pointed out, my belly now "looks like I've been attacked by a zombie" 😂

Smellyjo · 29/03/2018 09:13

I didn't get any and used body shop body butter. I also firmly believe it's luck/genetics and will be lucky if I don't get them in this second pregnancy as I'm growing more quickly than last time.

ExpectingFirst · 29/03/2018 09:34

Well, that is not what I was expecting at all 😂 I'd never heard of it being down to genetics but it makes sense! I'm guessing I will probably be one of those that gets them then as I have stretch marks on my inner thighs already.

I will try some moisturiser anyway and hope it might help in some way. Thanks for your replys Smile
