Forth valley/Ninewells Dundee...opinions?

Hi, I'll need to give birth in a medical unit, fairly high likelihood of needing c-section. I can decide whether to go Ninewells or forth Valley. Heard positive stuff about forth Valley, but the big plus of Ninewells is that if all goes well/uncomplicated I could go back to Perth midwife lead unit after the birth to recover/establish feeding etc. Have a toddler at home so won't be rushing home before I'm ready! Any experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

I gave birth in Ninewells 15 months ago and my experience was mixed to be honest! My waters broke at home and contractions started pretty strong so MLU wanted me in! Contractions died off so they sent me home but told me to come back in 36 hours(even though my waters had gone) to be induced if nothing was progressing.
Was induced and taken to delivery unit quickly as I was told within 3 hours I was already 8 cm. got down there to then be told I was only 4cm so got put on the drip. From here my experience was good in the delivery suite, my midwife was amazing, as were all the team I encountered in delivery. I was made to feel as comfortable as possible, even laughing and joking with everyone. Ended up with an epidural which was not in my plan but the best thing I could have done, once baby delivered they delayed clamping and I had as much skin to skin as I wanted. My midwife pretty much saved my life, she noticed I was deteriorating pretty quickly with sepsis so rushed me onto antibiotics along with my baby.
Taken to recover suite where everything was lovely, I thought the food was pretty decent for a hospital, and was transferred to a side room once they realised I was going to be in longer than a few days, had a baby doctor come and check and keep me up to date twice a day. After day 4 I was struggling with the sleeplessness so an old school midwife came and took baby for a couple of hours so I could get some rest.
I would recommend ninewells if you weren't going to a MLU which after reading your OP you aren't
Hope that helps x

Thanks for your reply. I've been given mixed reports of Ninewells, and only glowing reports of Forth Valley, but Dundee is easier to get to for us and the option of perth is a good one if it's possible. Really reassuring to hear a good report. Thanks!

We were given the option of ninewells or kirkaldy but as neither of us drive the easiest by public transport was Dundee. To be fair I only moved up here when I was 8.5 months pregnant so I just went with the easiest option but I think I'd have done the same if I'd had longer to think about it.
