Ovarian Cyst

Desperately searching for anyone with experience dealing with an ovarian cyst during pregnancy.

After severe pain at 19 weeks, I was found to have a cyst of 8cm. Since then (now 31 wks) I have been admitted twice because of the pain. Baby is doing ok but it is totally debilitating - been laid up in bed (during holiday in Ibiza) for last two days... unable to walk and losing appetite. Very aware it is likely to sort itself out if I do nothing for a while but worried about it twisting / rupturing which MW has said is a possibility. Also, MW doesn’t seem to think it should impact me having a natural birth so have been dismissive of any suggestions to intervene (at a later stage... say 38 wks) ... am seriously concerned about how I might deal with labour!

Anyone had a cyst during pregnancy before and how was labour for you? Have you had to have cyst surgically removed since?

I have a dermoid cyst that was discovered during my last pregnancy 7 years ago it was 7cm then and did cause some discomfort during pregnancy. I don't think it caused any problems during labour but if your concerned speak to your midwife again or your gp they may be able to do an elcs and remove the cyst at the same time? I still have mine as up until last year it had never bothered me since pregnancy, i think I'm more scared to have the cyst removed than I was of labour.

We are now planning to ttc #3 and i have been told the cyst has to go first.

Thanks @Mammac85, nice to know I am not alone! I think I would be less stressed out by it if it was more a discomfort than a pain but... and appreciate I haven’t been through labour yet(!)... it has at time left me panting on all fours and letting out involuntary moans in pain. Perhaps my pain threashold is pathetically low. Confused

I will try and talk to a MW again, but they don’t seem to show much empathy and brushed aside my query as to whether c section would be considered if problems continued. Don’t get me know, I am so glad the baby is apparently unaware of my struggles but it is all taking such a toll on me; mentally and physically. The thought of another 9-11 weeks of this, where pain is only likely to get worse ( more constant) as the baby grows, if terrifying.

Good luck with your third anyway! x

Hi I know this is an old post but I would love to know how you got and did they remove the cyst before the baby was born? I am in a similar situation. Thanks and hope all went well

I had a cyst which always popped up in scan pregnancy or not pregnancy related. As it was small they said nothing to worry about as it will go away itself. During 20 weeks I had a sudden pain, just before the scan. On the scan they confirmed the cyst probably burst hence the pain. No other issues or cause for concern for the pregnancy.

Hope yours is as painless.
