Waters breaking at 34 + 5

Hi,
My waters broke at 3am Friday so I called the maternity ward who asked me to go in. I'd had no contractions so they kept me in for regular monitoring, I had a scan, two steroid injections 24 hours apart, I've been given antibiotics to help prevent infection and after still not having any contractions and with baby still happily moving about I was discharged home yesterday with enough antibiotics for 10 days plus some thermometers to take my temperature regularly. Advice is to monitor how I am and any changes in discharge, how I am feeling or increase in temperature to call and they'll readmit me. I'm now @ 35 weeks and ideally they'd like me to get as close as possible to term / 37 weeks. Have another appt for monitoring baby on Wednesday.

Has anyone else experienced this before, and how long until you actually started having contractions? Is it realistic to hope that I will make it to 37 weeks? Baby was still happy with some fluid left in there. I'm a FTM so it's all a new experience Smile

Hi Smile I have no advice but I just wanted you to know that my friend had her baby at 35 weeks and he was perfectly healthy and everything was fine! I hope you make it to 37 weeks, but don’t worry if not. They’ll soon lay down some fat when they come out! Smile good luck! Flowers

My waters have broken extremely early every time and all my babies made it to induction at 36/34/35/34 weeks respectively!

My only advice would be to keep a very close eye on not only your temperature but how you feel generally...with my last they insisted I was fine but I felt “ off” - they delivered at 34 weeks ( waters leaked from 15weeks) and he had sepsis - he’s fine now - and it’s not to worry you - just to remind you only you can feel what you’re feeling if that makes any sense Blush

Hope you get to 37weeks!

Thank you both, I've noticed since coming home everything is so much harder just walking around is getting me out of breath! Regular temperature checks are fine so far so fingers crossed baby is hanging in there for a bit longer. My back is achy but in the positive side my SPD that has been around since 24 weeks has all but disappeared! Thank you for the reassurance xx

My waters broke at 34+1. I delivered the same day. Really trust your instincts and if you feel anything is not as you’d think then go in-the doctors told me I could go home and that I would be fine with antibiotics and the steroid injections but I knew somehow he’d be coming and didn’t leave the hospital. I only managed one of the steroid injections before he was born and even though I wasn’t contracting I had a feeling!

My waters went at 34 +4 and I started contracting the next day (with twins). They were born by emcs at 34+5 weighing 5lb4 and 5lb8.
