Do I also need a GP appointment to let them know?

No. They won't care.

zaalitje · 24/03/2018 16:20

Nope. They'll just tell you to go to midwife.

Congrats on your pregnancy! No, your booking in appt with the midwife will be first. Then once you’ve seen her you get a schedule of scans and appts etc and which weeks these should occur. No need to contact the GP.

Ok fab - that's what I thought I just want d to make sure I hadn't skipped a step.

Has anyone self referred? How long was it before a midwife got in touch?

I self referred online and had letters confirming my booking in appointment and scan date exactly a week later.

Bluebirdsky · 24/03/2018 16:29

I would say allow 2 weeks and then if you haven't heard anything give them a call.

I went to my GP and they were useless, I didn't know that I didn't need to go to them. Just refer yourself to a midwife team instead.

I self reffered at 36 weeks as was moving area and heard back within a couple of weeks - lucky I did as gave birth at 38 weeks!

EL332 · 24/03/2018 17:03

Oh that's exciting - lovely to get the two dates together so you have them to look forward to! 🤞🏼❤️

I self-referred at about 6/7 weeks and got the letter with my booking appt about 8 days after. Went to the GP beforehand, they advised me to look at different places and use the self-referral option if available.
