Severe acid reflux

also posted in Aibu but I suspect that won’t get much response . Anyone given birth with severe acid reflux? I’m so scared.

I’m getting NO sleep. Due to be induced next week (with twins). I’ve got a cough and terrible sore throat from the acid. I’ve severely reduced my diet to just bland foods and water. I’m on gaviscon and prescription ranitidine.

Every few hours I’m choking on my own acid and unable to breathe. Its like my throat is in spasm or closing. It’s really scary, like I’m drowning or choking... hence the lack of sleep. I’m coughing up really thick saliva in huge quantities and narrowly avoiding bringing up vomit. I’m utterly miserablewith this.

Has anyone given birth or had a c section under these circumstances. I’m so worried about it because I had wanted to go in to this feeling well. Instead I’m exhausted, scared, with pain in my throat like you wouldn’t believe. I feel really broken and petrified at the thought of giving birth with this

Get to your gp. Omprezole is safe in pregnancy and will improve it really quickly.

Yeah omeprazole second vote. Rinitidine is crap.

I agree with the recommendations above - I had ranitidine but it didn’t work so called gp and she gave me ompezole (I think that’s the spelling!) which has stopped any need for anything else. I’d call your gp, the tablets worked for me within 24 hours.

Yeah I would ask for omeprazole too. I have had acid reflux since I was about 17, I'm now 24 and 27 weeks pregnant with my first, I've been on omeprazole on and off throughout all of that time. I've also tried ranitidine, gaviscon, lansoprazole and pantoprazole and personally find omeprazole the best for me. I don't get any side effects but it makes a huge difference to my quality of life.

I also find eating yoghurt helps. Milk is meant to help but I can't stomach that. You need to try and eat little and often too and never let yourself get too hungry, apologies if you know all this already. I do sympathise Flowers.

Another vote for contacting your doctor for omeprazole! That sounds awful, they really should try something else to help you.

Another one saying omeperazole!
