I've just started spotting. Rusty redy brown discharge. Im 6+3 and unsure what I am supposed to do. I have no cramping at all so am I just supposed to wait and see or am I supposed to call someone?

Hi waz. You could ring your early pregnant assessment unit. They may make an appointment for you however each trust is different. Mine says 8wks as there is a better chance of getting a clear picture then.

Unfortunately other than that it is a case of waiting it out. Spotting can be totally normal and lots of people have spotting and even sometimes quite big bleeds and everything is fine however sometimes it is not the case.

I bled in my last pregnancy from about 6 weeks. I had 3 scans during this time where all was fine so I can really be nothing. Try your epau other than that keep an eye on it.

Thanks DBoo, that's really reassuring. I will see how it goes this afternoon and if it gets worse ring midwives/epu tomorrow.

Hi there,

I also bled at 6 weeks - quite heavily too. Ended up in the early pregnancy unit to have an emergency scan and all was fine. We were told it's quite common to spot / bleed, which I hadn't been aware of. Now 18 weeks and all fine.

I'd go and get it checked out to be on the safe side but mine lasted about 5 days in total.

I've had spotting in 2 pregnancies , my last was on and off from 6 weeks to 18 weeks. At 16 weeks it was bright red blood and a lot of it. Went to hospital and baby was fine. Was told unexplained bleeding was very common. Baby was born at 37 weeks, it's very scary but just try to relax. All the best

Thanks for your reassuring responses. It has pretty much stopped. Lets hope it stays that way.

How are you getting on was?

WazFlimFlam · 24/03/2018 10:02

It seems to have stopped completely now thanks. I'll mention it at my booking in appointment (when I get one) but don't really thinking seeking any more medical advise now would really help.

I agree. It would just probably add to your worry. The fact it's stopped is great news.

WazFlimFlam · 24/03/2018 10:38

Thanks for asking btw😀

I had spotting around then and as you have suggested mentioned it at my booking appointment. The midwife didn’t seem at all phased and suggested it was probably implantation bleeding or my body thinking it should still be having a period. She said so long as it wasn’t bright red or heavy then not to worry too much. I’m now 25 weeks :) having had a couple of bright red bleeds 🙈 but no reason has been found and at the last scan (a couple of weeks ago) baby was doing just fine!

I had the same thing for a couple of weeks early on, and ended up having an emergency scan too. I’m now 29 weeks and everything is totally fine. I know how scary it can be, but it’s more common than you think so try not to panic too much x
