Stitch pain in bump at 20 weeks

Does anyone else have/had any similar pains? I'm 20 weeks baby no 2 and have never had anything like this before.

It feels like a stitch but in one part of my bump, it feels much worse when I'm up and about. Had to cut short a walk earlier because it was so bad.

My midwife isn't massively helpful otherwise I'd call her for reassurance. Sad

Look up round ligature pain. Sounds like it could be that.

Ligament not ligature 😬

Im not sure what causes it, but I do think it’s just yet another normal pregnancy discomfort :(. I had this with my second from about 18 weeks (like you, I never got anything like it with my first!) got to the point that I couldn’t walk to the tram from work (about a five min walk) without being in pain and always had to sit down for a while after getting home. My midwife didn’t know what it was but she wasn’t concerned - she suggested either baby lying in a funny place or ligaments movement when I walked.

I've just recommended this belt on another thread:

I felt exactly as you did and it has done wonders for me. I was honestly crying when I had to walk to pick DS up and now can walk relatively normally. I can still feel the localised stitch/muscle/ligament pain in the centre of my bump but it doesn't feel like my body is falling apart with every step!

This sounds like what I had at about 27 weeks - I had to go to my GP and he said he thought my growing bump had "popped" a ligament (also probably didn't help that I jumped off the sofa too quickly and that's when I first felt it Blush.)

GP gave me codeine to take when I really needed it, helped until the pain became a bit more manageable. So definitely go and talk to them if you're really struggling or it gets worse.

I've had this all the way through my pregnancy too. Every single time I walk the dog or go swimming I get a stitch right across my bump and sometimes its pretty painful. I've questioned it with a couple of midwives and they all say its normal and nothing to worry about.

I still try and go for walks and swim but I already know before hand that the stitch will appear. I only managed 6 lengths in 45 minutes the last time I went swimming. Had to stop after each length because I was in agony!

Thank you all so much for your replies, you've helped ease my worries!

I'll definitely look into that @MsJuniper, thank you Smile

I have it too. It's excruciating when walking at a medium or fast pace but seems to abate somewhat if I walk slowly. I have yet to go swimming since this pain started so a bit worried that will be agony too as I was hoping to get back to swimming. I'm 27+3.
