Booking in appointment

Hi can anyone please help me.

I have just found out I'm pregnant 5 plus 5 . I called the GP and got a midwife appointment for the 13th April, from what I have read online this will be my booking in appointment I think.

I'm wondering how soon usually after this I would get a scan date , I'm just wondering because I read a lot of people seem to have early scans , is this purely due to previous implications or current pain?

Due to a family trip we have booked at the end of April, I will have to stay at home which will in itself cause people to ask questions. I'm happy to stay home this isn't the issue but I won't be able to go as it only involves activities and drinking. It's most likely still too early to tell people though and if we have to tell people.. my booking in appointment is 13th what's he likelihood of us having a scan before the trip 9-10 weeks to see if things are even ok so that we could potentially tell family. I'm aware it's still early days and anything could happen, i just don't feel good telling anyone close to us until we have had a scan at least. Everyone else can wait until after 12 weeks.

If anyone has any idea of timeline that would be great.
Thanks

You won’t have an early scan without clinical need; previous losses, or potential miscarriage. Most people who have early scabs pay for them privately.

In my area your scan date comes theough relatively quickly and will be around 12 weeks.

Most scans are booked for around 12 weeks.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Early scans on the nhs are usually due to previous complications or pain or bleeding. You won't be offered a scan before 12 weeks in other circumstances. You can have a private scan at any stage although I would wait until at least 8 weeks as if your dates are out and you're not as far along as you think the scan won't show much. A private scan costs around £80 here.

Scans before 12 weeks are usually due to concerns about the pregnancy (possible ectopic etc) Or due to people having multiple miscarriages before (usually 3+).
You can also pay for a private scan, around 8 weeks is best for seeing a heart beat, it gives room for you to be a couple of days out with dates too.
