Maternity jeans

When did you realise your normal jeans no longer fit and buy maternity ones ? Or did you buy maternity jeans earlier on as they are expensive and want to get your moneys worth out of them?

I always wear black skinny jeans and have to buy short leg - there isn’t much choice out there.

If you have a jojo maman bebe near they do a maternity vip shopping thing. You book an hour's slot and get 15% of anything you buy plus a 15% voucher for yiur next purchase. Also a goody bag with some free samples. I'm 14 weeks and went at the weekend- got some jeans, jumpers and a maternity/nursing dress.

TopShop Leigh black skinny jeans. £38 I think and they're great. Do slip down a little bit but not too badly.

I found Gap maternity wear really good and wore it throughout my first pregnancy. Online only though :/ but can be returned to stores. So I just bought a few sizes and returned what didn't work. I preferred their jeans to H&M, but is a bit of a pain to have to order and wait for them.

I’m not normally into h and m but their maternity jeans are alright. They do a good skinny ankle length one which is like a normal regular length jean on me (five foot two.) mama high rib skinny ankle I think.

I found the quality of stuff from seraphine quite poor tbh although I haven’t tried their jeans. I found with mat jeans or leggings I could get away with just wearing regular tops that were stretchy jersey or regular dresses as long as they were empire type.

Holycrapwhatnow · 19/03/2018 12:59

Seraphine under bump have been my favourite and my DH and mum both agreed they weremy most flattering pair of jeans of all time (maternity or normal) and lasted really well through three pregnancies and post birth too. They're not cheap though, and have just started getting a bit knackered now I'm on pregnancy 5 with DD3...

If you're looking for something to wear just occasionally or for only a few more weeks the H&M ones were good and affordable, I just don't really like over bump.

You'll definitely be able to get black skinny short legged jeans at Gap (online only). Their maternity jeans are brilliant. The have belt loops and fit/look like normal ones.

KochabRising · 19/03/2018 13:02

These are the short leg ones: m2.hm.com/m/sv_se/productpage.0249136006.html

They’re marketed as ankle but seem to be just right in me ;)

Have got over bump and under bump from New Look, ASOS and I think Dorothy Perkins

For me the over bump ones are so much better, they still fit now whereas I’m struggling a bit at term with the under bump ones. Have also heard the over bump is good if you go on to have a caesarean as there’s less of a seam over the scar area

Love mine, they are much more like normal jeans than I imagined! All in my usual size

I started wearing maternity jeans at around 18 weeks. I probably could have got away with it for a bit longer but my normal jeans were on their last legs anyway so I just binned them and started wearing my new maternity ones.

I had an absolute nightmare finding some maternity jeans though. I hate skinny jeans and only wear bootcut, but there just didn't seem to be many available. Next were completely sold out online for a number of weeks and everywhere else seemed to only have skinny jeans. I did eventually get some from Gap and they fit so well and are really comfortable that I will be going there to replace my normal jeans that I threw out. I also bought a pair of bootcuts from JoJo but have only worn those a few times as they don't fit as well.

I found it really annoying that nowhere apart from H&M had maternity clothes in store meaning I had to order a mixture of sizes online and return what didn't fit.

I've had maternity jeans from a variety of places over 3 pregnancies and the GAP ones are the best by far.

Baby2018 · 19/03/2018 20:48

Im in maternity jeans at 13 weeks, my regular jeans were getting tight and when I had pressure on my tummy it made me nauseous. I figure my over the bump pair will last me for ages so I dont care Im in them "early"

I found Asos were very hit and miss so I have just ordered a pair from H&M instead

Fidgety31 · 19/03/2018 20:50

@Baby2018. What do you do with the fabric that would go over the bump at 13 weeks though ? Does it fold down out the way?
I was looking at the under bump jeans as I didn’t think you could wear the over bump ones without a big bump !!

@Fidgety31 Im in over the bump jeans now, they are super comfy. My bump is small but I pull the over the bump bit up, it stays up its just like wearing a vest top under a jumper, if you want to roll it down you can do that too.
