11 weeks bleeding- work?

Hi all
I'm 12 weeks in two days and have had some brown and red bleeding today. Went to hospital who ended up doing a really quick scan where I saw the baby and its heartbeat. My 12 week scan is on Tuesday morning. They didn't say anything about taking it easy or resting. I assume I'm ok to go to work this week? This might be a really stupid question but I have never been pregnant before.

I worked through bleeding but have a non physical job.

RowenaDedalus · 18/03/2018 19:28

My job isn't physical but it is on my feet all day. Probably won't get to sit down tomorrow between 9 and 3. But is that fine?

I would probably take one day off to rest to be on the safe side... and I never take time off work. I'm 11+3 at the moment and have no bleeding but am scared of that happening so I don't think it would be unreasonable of you to take a day off if you are going to put your body through unnecessary effort. I would probablt hqve a different opinion if you were going to be sitting down all day though. Others might disagree but you have to do what you think is best and taking it easy for 24 hours certainly can't do any harm!
Best of luck at your scan... mine is on Friday and the wait is scary!
Oh by the way - seeing the heartbeat is surely an excellent sign that the bleeding is probably unrelated? So try not to worry too much...

The heartbeat is an amazing sign at this stage so try and relax about that. I've also had bleeding at various points this pregnancy and it's been fine, although a massive worry at the time. I think unless you've been told otherwise it's ok to keep up normal life if you feel up to it. And if you dont feel up to it (physically or emotionally) then a day off would be ok, and also count as pregnancy related.

We didn't see much of the baby at all but I do feel relieved by the heart beat, thank you. And thank you all for responding, mumsnet is amazing - there's always someone there! I feel really emotional but I think I will go into work- have given my line manager an email to let her know and if I feel terrible tomorrow I will just come home.
Thanks everyone.
Good luck for your scan on Friday surreygirl!

So I went to work and had a little more bleeding. Unsure whether to go in tomorrow - I really don't know whether sitting in my armchair will make any difference or not! Can't make a decision!

I wouldn’t go.

I would relax in bed and rest, being on your feet all day while you’re bleeding isn’t a good idea. Listen to your body and rest up.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 19/03/2018 22:14

It probably won't make a difference to the bleeding but don't force yourself through a day at work just because you feel like you have to. What do you want to do, and what's going to make you feel better? For some people rest is the way to go and for some people carrying on as normal to take your mind off it helps. It's a personal decision. I hope you're ok.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. My midwife said it was probably good to rest rather than be on my feet all day so I am off today and hoping all is well on the scan!

Good - glad you're going to take it easy. Let us know and best of luck

RowenaDedalus · 23/03/2018 19:00

Had my 12 week scan and at this stage baby is fine! 2 arms and 2 legs and it was wriggling around a little (although it spent quite some time curled up snoozing). So hoping all goes well for the rest of the pregnancy.
