i take it you are pregnant at the mo
i would say, don't worry, i think it is always hopeless when pregnantand if you were ok after your ds you will sort it again after this pregnancy

I was doing the same thing during my 3rd pregnancy but i'm fine now, she is 3 montrhs

I wouldn't worry, my pelvic floor was knackered after dd, but got it back due to lots of pelvic floor exercises. When I got pregnant this time I wet myself during the morning sickness stages. It is a big wrench on your body! Also, don't forget that hormones are working to relax your muscles etc during pregnancy. Once those hormones stop after you have had the baby, things will get better again. (if you are still exercising!)
I have been fine for the rest of the time. Just keep squeezing away in the meantime
If you are being sick try to clench those muscles if you can as it does help - I know it's not the first thing you think of during the dash to the loo though...

OMG _ I thought it was just me, I've had the same thing happen, even when bladder virtually empty and I've tried clenching. I think it's because the vomiting is quite violent.

flightattendant · 08/05/2007 10:48

There was a thread about this on the American forum I used to go on (pre-finding MN!! ) There were hundreds of women all doing the same.
As someone famous once said, 'every action has an equal and opposite reaction'. Which I guess means that when something's coming out one end, it can make something else come out the other end.

...maybe.

well, no sick today.

am continuing with pelvic exercises...don't want to end up with TenaLadys!

My DH was teasing me last night - so I told him that if he didn't stop it I was going to go upstairs, sit on his side of the bed and cough.
He said was this the maternity equivalent of gallows humour?!

mad4girls · 09/05/2007 18:49

i posted about this couple of wks ago as have same thing and had it last time too, apprently you use slightly different muscles to hold it in than pelvic floor, think the lady told me to clench my buttocks IYkWIM adn that has helped me not stopped compleatly but some times prevents it.

also went straight back to normal after dd2 was born so hopefuly be fine this time too.

whomovedmychocolate · 09/05/2007 18:52

I did quite a bit of accidental widdling while pregnant and madly exercised my PF muscles.

Now my fanjo is oppressively tight. Apparently.

NoodleStroodle · 09/05/2007 18:55

Did you do by clenching alone?

My pelvic flaw is non existence and laughing, jumping, vomiting, bouncing on trampoline ends in damp knickers

HELP!

whomovedmychocolate · 09/05/2007 19:44

Um squeezing is an interesting term - you know that you have three sets of muscles to fix right - the first one is in yer bum (ooh the glamour). So imagine that you are doing a poo and stop. The second is in your fanjo, so tighten that (if you are really loose you may have to put a finger in to feel that you are doing it - yes I know TMI but this is what the physios told me, the third one, obviously is your bladder and you can feel this muscle when you stop weeing midstream - don't do this too often.

So you have to do all three, and you should try and build up to hold all three for the count of ten, ten times and then do twenty very fast pull ups on them.

If that doesn't work, ask to be referred (by your GP) to an OBSTETRIC PHYSIOTHERAPIST and they will help you further.

BTW Noodle stroodle - great type - pelvic flaw

whomovedmychocolate · 09/05/2007 19:45

typo obviously (you've got me at it now!)

Eaglebird · 11/05/2007 16:20

I know I should be doing my exercises, but I keep forgetting.
Anyone got any tips for reminding yourself to do them?

NoodleStroodle · 11/05/2007 16:24

Thank you - I need to make more of an effort and quite literally pull myself together

thelady · 11/05/2007 16:54

Eaglebird: pick something you do several times a day - like waiting for the kettle to boil for a cuppa - and do the exercises as you wait. That used to work for me (I'm one of the weird ones that's been doing the exercises since about 14) until we took on a hotel with instant hot water out of a coffee machine . Now I try and remember to do it while I brush my teeth, so at least twice a day.

Eaglebird · 13/05/2007 16:41

Good idea Lady.
I'll try to do them while brushing my teeth, boiling the kettle, washing the dishes & waiting for buses.
Hopefully by the time th baby pops out, I'll be able to crack walnuts with my fanjo
