Just curious really.

If you have/are pregnant with twins (or more!) how far along were you and how did you find out?

I had an inkling at 7-8 weeks as sickness was through the roof compared to my first pregnancy. I joked to DH that there must be 2 in there to make me so sick. Had a private NIPT scan at 10 weeks and it was twins. No family history so we were suitably shocked!

Potplant · 16/03/2018 20:26

First scan at 14 weeks.

Prtf1345 · 16/03/2018 20:28

Willisurvive, I’ve heard that you can get increased sickness with twins. What a shock that must’ve been!

Pressed post too soon there.

I was showing at 10 weeks and exH Guessed it was twins, he was joking at the time, but swears blind now that he knew.

Prtf1345 · 16/03/2018 20:31

Potplant, your exH must’ve been shocked to hear he was right!

I had a private scan at 7 weeks and there was two in there!

The fact I felt and still feel like utter shite was also a bit of a giveaway!

isthismummy · 16/03/2018 20:32

There were even...

NorbertTheDragon · 16/03/2018 20:35

At the scan at 12 weeks.

Though I'd been feeling slightly more nauseous with that pregnancy than my first two, a couple of friends had joked it was twins. I'd laughed it off as I never felt that sick.

I was sick after the scan though! The shock I think. They're 13 now, I've just about got over it. Grin

Prtf1345 · 16/03/2018 20:41

7 weeks is early!

Ha ha- NorbertTheDragon, my mum found out at her scan. She had three kids already (including me) and with twins on the way- that made 5 of us. She cried and my aunt had to explain to the nurse why she was crying.

The twins are 19 now and we cant imagine life without them!

Prft1345 - a huge shock for both of us. I was sick as a dog at first, but My friend was hospitalised with HG round same time so mine didn't seem so bad.

SurvivingFive · 16/03/2018 20:56

I found out at 7 weeks.

I felt really unwell, twice as unwell as my previous pregnancies at least.

tinytemper66 · 16/03/2018 21:04

My mum found out a week before we were due! No scans back in the day and we weighed the size of one baby! I was 3lbs and my sister was 5lbs! We are now 50+

ClareB83 · 16/03/2018 21:12

At an emergency scan at 9 weeks. Hadn't been sick at all. Thought we'd miscarried, was incredibly shocked and relieved to find we had two babies instead!

Prtf1345 · 16/03/2018 21:28

Tinytemper66- I did wonder what people did before scans. They would have found out at the birth!

Clareb83- that must’ve been a relief! Did you have any sickness at all after that?

My grandmother had twins and they x-rayed her (!!!) at about 8 months. They saw one baby and then what they said was a 'mass' behind it. They told her it was either cancer or another baby that was probably dead!! And she'd find out at birth.

Luckily it was indeed another baby who was very much alive.

Pennywhistle · 16/03/2018 21:34

7 weeks.

Prtf1345 · 16/03/2018 21:40

Greenmarket- oh my gosh! How horrible it must have been for her. Waiting a whole month to find out!

Glad it turned out to be another baby.

My husband is a twin ( almost 60) his mum only found out during labour. She was just 16. They were both 6lb each, and she was only 5ft.Shock

neversleepagain · 16/03/2018 21:49

First scan at 13 weeks.

PavoReal · 16/03/2018 21:50

At the 12 week scan. No sickness and wasn't showing either. Didn't show until 17 weeks (normally a size 14 and 5'11" so built for twins apparently Hmm)

Todayissunny · 16/03/2018 21:51

I just knew. Pretty much the day I knew I was pregnant I started looking up signs of twin pregnancy on the Internet. I had no signs. The day before I went for my first scan at 10 weeks I told my sister I was sure it was twins. We joked about it with the doctor before the scan

restingbemusedface · 16/03/2018 21:55

9 weeks - was referred to the early pregnancy unit due to serious sickness (that went on for about 6 months). They did a scan and said ‘are you absolutely sure you don’t have multiples in your family?’ Cue white faces and more sickness

restingbemusedface · 16/03/2018 21:57

Oh, and my student midwife was there. I asked her is she had delivered a twin pregnancy yet - she had but the woman hadn’t even known she was pregnant! Went into A&E with tummy pains, sent up to delivery suite and gave birth to twins!!

Prtf1345 · 17/03/2018 04:57

Thanks all! All interesting accounts- especially the one with the trainee midwife!

First scan at 14 weeks
I had no sickness during the pregnancy, just horrific insomnia and nausea with no vomiting
