I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I have gone back to work today after nearly 3 weeks off and I feel so lethargic. I work on a busy neonatal unit and today my workload has been minimal and still feel ruined. Still another 5 1/2 hours to go

LucindaE · 17/05/2018 18:53

Oh no. I am sorry. You don't sound as if you're well enough for this.

i was on setraline 100mg, proponal 3 x a day. and amtriplyne 10mg for my depression, all off it had to be stopped cold turkey by my doctor when they found out i was expecting. so i did go through a stage off withdrawing and getting my moods to a level. ive just threw up all my tea tonight.. could not go toilet again ( been eating healthy) took some lactolose and that came straight back up. ive just had to put myself in bed cause i feel that lethargic i feel awful. my other half just leaves me to it as i dont like people in the bathroom while im throwing up ( its some kind off weird thing). just praying i can get over the sickness and not end up back in hospital for a 4th time. was doing really well on cyclizine and ondanestron together. hope everyone is ok tonight - beginning to feel like im hating being pregnant and cant wait to have my baby in my arms so its all over - its definatly put me off having baby number 2 Blush

Hotchocolate86 · 18/05/2018 09:26

Can you go back to the doctors about your depression december? Maybe there are some other medications they can try you on that are safe in pregnancy. Sorry if you’ve already done this and I’ve missed it.
Has anyone taken their maternity leave early due to the hyperemesis before? Last time I managed to work up to 35 weeks but I was so much better. This time I am definitely having better days but I still feel so rough so often. I’m considering taking my maternity leave from about 30 weeks but I’m unsure if I’ll regret it afterwards.

LucindaE · 18/05/2018 18:42

Hotchoclolate Quite a lot of people have done that on this thread with ML. Good advice for DECEMBER.
DECEMBER Sorry you are having so horrible a time. Sorry too, to sound like a broken record, but do phone 024 7638 2020. They will phone you back with great advice. It is very hard to endure the early bit, particularly with multiple admissions, even without depession. Things do get better for almost everyone, and for most people there is a turnaround between weeks 14-21.

YourHandInMyHand · 18/05/2018 19:22

Well Wednesday evening I called 111 who told me to get to A&E within the hour, and after a 3hr wait I was then admitted. Ketones were 4+. Had a couple of bags of fluids IV'd overnight, cyclizine through the cannula and then an injection of something in the morning. By 2pm I was back home with phenargan tablets.

The phenargan tablets are so far keeping me from vomiting thankfully but I'm still getting the constant nausea and they seem to make me very sleepy. At least I'm not puking though.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 09:15

Just at slimming world and I've put on 11.5lbs in last 7 weeks!
Not bad considering the vomming Confused

Hotchocolate86 · 19/05/2018 15:36

I had to come home early from work again today due to feeling so ill. Im going to have to discuss my hours with them next week and try to work something out but I really don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m letting them down too much.

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 16:10

Hotchocolate86 oh no!
Is it worth taking a week off sick to try to recover a bit?

Hotchocolate86 · 19/05/2018 20:04

Hi foody I’m not sure it would help. I went back for two weeks. One was reduced hours and the second I had to come home early one day out of the two I work but managed the second. Last week I was off on holiday I had booked ages ago but this week again I managed to struggle through yesterday but had to come home today. I’ve even had customers commenting how pale I am. I think I will have to see if they can give me a longer break in between shifts as last night I finished at 9.30pm and was back in at 7am. If that doesn’t work I’m not sure what will be the next step. I worry about getting in trouble for it but I’m not much use when I’m there either when I feel so ill.

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 20:14

Ooh yes, longer breaks needed! EU working time directive is 11hrs between shifts.
So should be 8pm then 7am, or 9.30pm then 8.30am.

Are you stood alot?
I can't stand still or que for long without getting dizzy and nauseous

Hotchocolate86 · 19/05/2018 20:19

I am yes. I work on a deli counter so it’s all on my feet apart from an hour and a half for breaks. They offered to move me onto checkouts but I seem to feel worse when I’m sat down there for some reason. The lights and screens don’t really seem to agree with me. I didn’t realise that about the EU working time directive. Thank you for that. It’s definitely helpful to know.

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 20:24

Can you have a bar stool to rest on maybe?

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 20:26

Maybe customer service with a stool could be an option?

Hotchocolate86 · 19/05/2018 21:50

I think a stool behind the counter could work if they agreed. I’m not sure whether health and safety would allow it but it’s worth asking. I don’t think they would put me on customer service as I’m not trained and I’m not sure they’d go to the effort of doing that knowing I’m off on maternity leave soon. I will try to get a longer break between shifts and I think discuss the possibility of a stool.

seizethecuttlefish · 19/05/2018 22:20

Just popping in to say hi and see how everyone is doing?
Yourhand glad that the meds gave at least stopped the vomiting.
Hotchocolate hope you get a solution re work. I was lucky as I had a great sick policy. I'd never have slogged it out!!
I'm looking at my 10 day old and thinking it was all worth it. And believe me, I felt like I counted down every single day.
Hugs to all Thanks

LucindaE · 19/05/2018 22:21

YourHandinmyHand I did fear that you would be very dehydrated. I am glad they treated it as an emergency, and that the meds are helping. Rest as much as you can. Did they give you an anti acid too? That can make a big difference.
Hotchocolate Great advice about work directives and suggestion of a stool from Foodylicious. I don't know why they don't provide stools. It is tiring standing anyway, as I remember from when in my library days there were no stools at the counter, and must be awful with Hyeremesis.
Foodylicious Congratulations on weight gain.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
YourHandInMyHand · 20/05/2018 16:54

Hotchocolate you must be exhausted! Hope you sort something out with your employer. I know what you mean about screens, I'm struggling to look at my phone or computer as it makes me more nauseous, I think a chair or stool for you to use, more breaks, and proper time between each shift would help.

Foodylicious I can imagine you looking all surprised at a gain. Smile Just shows baby is still growing despite your HG which is reassuring isn't it. My DS was born at 9lb and I was AMAZED.

seize so glad your enjoying your little one now, they're worth the fight aren't they.

Lucinda yes I have some indigestion/acid stuff in too.

I'm feeling very anxious and overwhelmed today. I need to put together an appeal to the SEN tribunal regarding my son, time is ticking on to put the paperwork in and my brain is like sludge. DS is 13 now and I didn't have more dcs when he was younger as I just couldn't envisage juggling HG and a child at home. Well he's 13 now but he's still at home all day as no suitable special school place for him. Feel awful for him. Sad

LucindaE · 20/05/2018 20:09

YourHandinmyHand My goodness, it must be very hard having a child with special needs at home, and Hyperemesis. It is very bad that no suitable school has been found for him: in fact, it's outrageous. I hope you're still feeling better. Glad you've got an anti acid, too.
Hotchocolate I do hope they sort something out for you. Those sound like tough enough shifts!
I hope everyone is coping today.

Hotchocolate86 · 20/05/2018 22:10

Thanks for all the messages everyone. I am exhausted all the time. I’ve had a very nauseous day today but picked up a bit this evening. I hope I can get something sorted at work as even if I take my maternity leave early I’ll still have to manage for another couple of months. There is one lady there who has suffered HG before so she really understands which is lovely but I suspect a lot of people think I’m just being a bit of a drama queen over my morning sickness. I wish that was what it was.
yourhand that sounds an awfully stressful situation. It’s terrible your son has no school place and it must be really hard for you to try and appeal when you feel so rotten as well. I do hope it goes well.
seize I’m so glad you are feeling better and enjoying your little one. I remember how worth it it all was after my son was born but it’s certainly a hard slog getting there.

Hotchocolate86 · 21/05/2018 15:57

I had my 20 week scan today. Everything looks good with the baby which is great news. The doctors won’t allow me to have any more steroids so I’ve got to come off them. I’m pretty upset about that.

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/05/2018 16:04

Glad your scan was all ok Hotchocolate. Sorry to hear about stopping the steroids, hope that you do ok without them, especially when you are already struggling with work....Sad. Are you still on ondansetron?

Hotchocolate86 · 21/05/2018 16:09

I’m on ondansetron 3 times a day and cyclizine twice a day bored. I can up the cyclizine to 3 a day so I guess I’ll have to do that and hope for the best.

Foodylicious · 21/05/2018 18:03

Had mine too today hotchoc
All ok. Such a relief!!!

Sorry to hear about the meds though.
Do They have a next steps plan if it gets really bad again?

Hotchocolate86 · 21/05/2018 18:27

Hi foody I’m glad your scan went well.
There isn’t really a plan of action as such. Just that if I end up unwell enough to be hospitalised again they might put me back on steroids. Otherwise I’m just to try and cope.
