I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ugh.
Just need a little moan.
I know I'm not really ill or dehydrated, but I am just feeling more and more sick every day at the moment.
Really not looking forward to work tomorrow.
(Had today as planned AL to have a day to myself and do some stuff round the house. Have done nothing)

Boredoftryingusernames · 20/03/2018 09:16

Foody hope you have a better day and work is manageable.

Mustang27 · 20/03/2018 09:32

I honestly am in awe of anyone that goes through work and hg. Please don't force yourself if you really do not need too Foody. As I say all the time they will have to manage without you on maternity what does a couple of more months really make.

Anatidae · 20/03/2018 09:37

Still snowing 🌨 😁 rumours of above zero temps this week though!

I’m actually feeling very slightly better. Still nauseous and the hideous spd is kicking in but there has definitely been a slight reduction in the misery level. I’m ‘only’ being sick 3x a day now on average (although was 7 at the weekend and dozens of heaves each time.)
Have to go back to work at the end of the month so hoping I can manage.

hotchocolate86 · 20/03/2018 16:43

How are you feeling now foody? Any brighter today?

Glad to hear you are a little better ana. I hope it lasts.

I hope the spray works for you yule. I don’t find the flavour too off putting. Hopefully you will get used to it.

Foodylicious · 20/03/2018 17:10

Been a bit better today? Good thing too as work has been pretty full on.

I'm a community nurse, so someone else suddenly having to pickbip my caseload of 40+ people would be very difficult to manage I know could be done if they have too, but we are already a very small and slightly depleted team).

Unfortunately today extra busy day and urgent visits just means the rest of my week got even busier too.

Foodylicious · 20/03/2018 17:11

How's everyone else doing?

Mustang27 · 20/03/2018 17:30

Say no more Foody that is a totally different kettle of fish unfortunately. I commend you for going especially as nursing is so hard when fit and healthy

Glad you are feeling a bit better Ana.

@hotchocolate86 did you have a scan yesterday?

Foodylicious · 20/03/2018 18:15

I know mustang
Don't get me wrong, I like my job and love the office hours, no nights or weekends, but god it was easier to be off sick when I was on the wards!
Still not great, but it was a lot easier to get someone to cover a few shifts.

LucindaE · 20/03/2018 18:18

RockinRobin Added you.
Foodylicious It is very commendable to struggle on as a community nurse- but my goodness, it must be hard. With that caseload, is it impossible to reduce hours or something?
Anitidae The snow has gone for now here, save for patches - but I am cynical; it keeps coming back, like Hyperemesis when it's on the way out, but still reluctant to go...
Mustang I got your nice message, and sent one back, but I am never sure if my messages deliver!

Lucinda I am working towards getting my caseload down a bit.
The work comes in peaks and troughs, and unfortunately I had a weeks AL, most of a week of sick then we had loads of snow days over the next couple of weeks so it all backs up a bit.

I will get there soon though Smile

hotchocolate86 · 20/03/2018 19:08

Hi @Mustang27 my scan is next Monday. I’m looking forward to having it and seeing how everything is going. Fingers crossed it’s ok. Thanks for asking.

I’m glad you are feeling a little bit foody. It sounds like you have a big workload. Well done for making it in.

I’ve had a reasonable day today. Only slight nausea but it’s getting worse now as I am so tired. I was up at 5.15am today. I seem to be waking up really early most days at the moment and not being able to get back to sleep. I don’t mind too much if I don’t feel too sick but it does make the evenings long!

hotchocolate86 · 20/03/2018 19:09

That should have said a little bit better foody.

RockinRobinn · 20/03/2018 19:09

Thanks @LucindaE
Wow @Foodylicious hats off to you I'm an osteopath and a lot of my work is on my feet and being chatty and I just can't cope with it at the moment couldn't even think about doing a busy day/week! Good luck hopefully it will be ok sometimes in the moment it's not too bad it's when you stop that you feel really sick.
Having a bad day today struggling to keep water and food down so I've fallen into my bad habit of stopping eating drinking as the nausea is terrible. Trying to force myself as don't want to end up really dehydrated again.
Also I've got a wedding this weekend any tips to get through it from you wonderful ladies? We are only going to the day as the evening will be too much.

LucindaE · 20/03/2018 19:29

RockinRobin I only can think of the obvious ones, like a seat near the door or a loo - and taking a special bag with ahem - puking bags in, and wipes, and if it was me a c hange of knickers would have been required, given my tendency to wet myself, plus maybe fizzy drinks and what you find bearable as a snack. It's very brave of you to venture ot it.
hotchocloate I am glad things didn't get as bas as you feared a couple of days ago. All luck with the scan; almost certainly not needed.
Anitidae I am sorry - I missed that bit in your post about 'only three times a day' generally. Still, with lots of heaves, seeing many doctors seem to count heaves as one vomit, that adds up a lot, and that seven would make it a horrible number of heaves, maybe even 70. Much sympathy.

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/03/2018 07:21

Foody gosh that sounds full on, glad you managed, hope you manage to reduce your case load a bit. Hats off to you for managing, but please try not to overdo it and set yourself back.

Anatidae so pleased you are feeling a bit better, though only on this thread could vomiting 3 times a day be a good thing!! Really hope things continue to improve in time for you going back to work.

Rockin hope you managed to force something to drink down at least. It's so hard, but definitely the worst thing is to stop attempting to get get food/drink down as that awful spiral of dehydration and vomiting on an empty stomach kicks off. Good luck at the wedding - Lucinda has given some great tips. I went to one in my first pregnancy when I was very nauseous (but didn't have HG), I had a big bag of extra snacks like hula hoops in my car, and went for a sit down in there away from everything when I felt really grotty. Definitely some tissues in your bag just incase.

Hotchocolate glad things have calmed down a bit again. I am also waking up a 5ish, can't get back to sleep as feeling really nauseous and is too early to take my ondansetron. Consequently ending up in bed earlier in the evenings and the early waking continues!

I had a big breakthrough yesterday and ate some salad on my chicken roll - transforming it from beige to multi-coloured! And some extra nutrients!! Felt like a big step forward at 16 weeks!! Had also been worrying about letting work down as STI not back and was meant to be working a shift over Easter they would struggle to cover. Had offered to see if I could do it close to time, even though signed off until the week after. Within half an hour they had messaged to say all sorted and not to worry about anything work wise for the next few weeks at least.

Hope the better days that most had yesterday continue today?

seizethecuttlefish · 21/03/2018 12:15

Hi all. Hope you're all having a manageable day? So nice to read that your work are being supportive bored. It makes things a bit less stressful.

hotchocolate86 · 21/03/2018 16:17

How are you feeling today rockin? Any better?

Well done on the salad bored. That’s an achievement.

Thanks for the good luck wishes lucinda. I hope all goes well and I don’t need them.

I’ve been a bit more off colour today and just thrown up my metoclopramide I think so I’m pretty gutted about that. I think it’s not helped by the fact I’m so tired. It’s been a huge struggle to stay awake today.

hotchocolate86 · 21/03/2018 16:57

On the plus side I have discovered today that I can eat a little bit of dark chocolate without feeling instantly sick. It actually tastes really good.

RockinRobinn · 21/03/2018 17:51

Hi @hotchocolate86 I've not been actually sick today just a few heaves where I've managed to hold my breath and stop myself from being sick. So doing a lot better. Called my dr and he said eat digestives and sip drinks like lemonade etc and to go back on the certrizine (?) which didn't work before but he said just take it and it's should help with the vomiting at least... going to try it again. Wish I could eat chocolate without feeling sick. Found that tinned Mac n cheese is very easy to eat though and cook!
Thanks for the tips for the wedding I'll let you all know how it goes.
Hope everyone is having a better day today too

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/03/2018 17:52

That is a definite win hotchocolate! Sorry that you are feeling rubbish in general though.
Seize such a relief, they have been really great, hoping to get back after Easter.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 21/03/2018 19:12

Foody I don’t know how you’re managing in that job, there must be so many things you have to see and do that make the queasiness worse.

Bored that’s brill news about the salad, hope it continues for you.

Hot choc I’m so pleased you managed to enjoy something to eat even if things are still pretty grim generally.

Just wanted to pop on and say thinking of you all lots and lots but I think I’ll stay back from the thread until such a time that I’m pg and will come on back, as reading about all the vomiting isn’t helping my anxiety and I don’t want to chicken out of trying again (I keep thinking I will change my mind!). I’ll let you know when I get a bfp even if in the unlikely event I don’t suffer like last time again if you’re interested?

Foodylicious · 21/03/2018 19:48

yule hope to see you on here again soon in that case Smile
Good luck

Boredoftryingusernames · 21/03/2018 19:51

Good luck Yule, I really hope you get your BFP, but don't need this thread!!

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 21/03/2018 19:53

Thanks and a big Brew for you all that will magically make you all feel less sicky —I wish—
