I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Thanks Eallison just working half days Thursday/Friday and then not back in until next Thursday so a gradual return. I work 2.5 days a week usually since having my first little girl. I'm a vet, so pretty full on at times, and lots of unpleasant smells so hoping I manage with that! Luckily the insanely sensitive sense of smell seems to have eased a bit in the last week!

hotchocolate86 · 05/04/2018 02:23

Good luck with work bored. I hope it goes well and doesn’t set you back. Hopefully with it being a gradual return you’ll manage fine.

ohiwa · 05/04/2018 08:50

Thanks so much for your tips and sympathy! Had a slightly better day today. Didn't manage to drink much at all so I'm going to attempt the fizzy orange...
Aw12345 I haven't had any issues with cystitis but a good friend has had recurrent cystitis throughout her pregnancy. Not fair to be dealing with that and HG!
Great news on your scan Boo. I can't imagine being a vet and dealing with this sickness - I can't even face feeding our cat! I hope your return to work goes well or at least is manageable

ohiwa · 05/04/2018 08:53

Oops sorry I saw that you're the vet bored!
Sorry am really new to posting! But I intended my comments about returning to work for you

nailsathome · 05/04/2018 09:21

Great news on the scan boo

Bored good luck at work. I hope it goes smoothly. I can't imagine being a vet with hg.

My midwife has advised me not to return to work and it's nothing to do with hg. I was feeling as though I should try and go back even though I'm still not well and have spd. She said that because I'm high risk for prem labour (due to twins) and that they are sharing a placenta means that I should try and limit my chances of catching any infections as they are the main cause of preterm labour in "normal" pregnancies. So working in a school is not worth the risk.

It makes me feel so much better about not going back, knowing that it's not just that I'm not well enough but that there is an actual reason to protect the twins if any of that makes sense?

I hope everyone has a good day today.

Aw12345 · 05/04/2018 15:47

@Boredoftryingusernames good luck going back to work! I'm also a vet!! Small world :-)

Mustang27 · 05/04/2018 15:54

So relieved for you Boo I had early bleeding with both my pregnancies it's scary.

Lucinda's daughter is also a Vet.

Totally makes sense Nails I think Hg is so trivialised by most that it's nice to actually have a reason people should accept even if it's a bit scary to think about. You shouldn't need it between spd and hg you have more than ample reason to be not working.

Hope Mr Justice is doing good Nat and his reflux isn't bothering him.

questabellatreetop · 05/04/2018 16:17

Hello everyone,

I'm feeling so weak and desperate. I haven't kept any water down for over a day and and since Tuesday only a small amount, do you think this test warrants hospital admission? I feel I need IV fluidsSad

Hyperemesis Support
hotchocolate86 · 05/04/2018 16:28

questa id definitely go to hospital on the basis of that test. I don’t think they’d refuse iv fluids and you’ll feel much better for getting them.

Elephantgrey · 05/04/2018 16:29

"Questa" the fact that you haven't kept any water down for over a day would mean that you need hospital admission. But the ketones test would definitely back that up.

Do you have a number to call for the hospital on your green notes? If not go to A and E.

I hope you feel better soon.Flowers

booandbumpp · 05/04/2018 16:34

@questabellatreetop I'd definitely be ringing up doctors or ward if you've got a number (some accept self referrals - my local one does) and be going down there. Fingers crossed you get sorted soon xx

booandbumpp · 05/04/2018 16:37

Thank you for well wishes on my scan! I'm relieved - I had a previous MMC at 9 weeks 4 days so when I started bleeding at 9 weeks 5 days I thought it must be happening. I was shaking after the scan!
I managed my first full day at work since HG hit. I am very tired and meant to be going out to pub for tea (not sure how I'll manage) but I stayed awake and wasn't sick! Feels like a miracle.

Mustang27 · 05/04/2018 16:37

Questa get yourself up ASAP. It's a lovely colour that Sad hope you get fluids soon

questabellatreetop · 05/04/2018 16:39

Thanks, my husband is on the case, feeling so weak. Hate this.

So pleased all went well for you @booandbumpp

eallison88 · 05/04/2018 17:32

questa I can only echo the comments of others, but the colour of that urine test combined with so little fluids you've managed to drink would absolutely warrant a hospital visit. Let us know how you get on.

LucindaE · 05/04/2018 18:46

questabella As others say, I certainly can't see them refusing you fluids with that. I hope you get treatment asap. Also, as others say, do keep us updated.
Mustang It must be synchronicity about vets!
Bored Glad work was OK. From what I hear from DD, the work is so responsible and stressful - not to mention gruesome at times - that you deserve a medal for dealing wiith it and Hypermesis.
booandbump That co-incidence in dates must have been awful. Much sympathy over that following an earlier mmc. I had one, and they spoil things in a later pregnancy.
Nails What a sensible medwife. I think three on here were expecting twins at once back in January. I hope the fact that the others haven't posted in a while means that they have had the turnaround. I am sorry you are still feeling bad. Not sure how far along you are - I hope you get one soon, though you are wise to avoid infections in schools.
ohiwa Elephantgrey and AW12345 How are things?
Mustang Hope all is fine. Smile
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Ah boo how terrifying. I had bleeding with my last pregnancy and it was a small subchorionic haematoma - harmless in that case but terrifying at the time.

I’m not yet 5 weeks and it’s manageable with the cyclizine, but definitely there - have that just-about-to-puke feeling in the back of my throat. Scared that it’s going to ramp up massively over next few weeks like it did in previous pregnancies, and it’s probably not a great sign that it wasn’t ever this bad at 4 weeks before. Still clinging onto hope that it won’t though!

bitzy12 · 05/04/2018 20:12

Hi everyone, I've not posted for a while. Hope everyone is doing ok?

I've had a really really bad couple of days and tbh I don't have the energy to explain it all. But it's been s**t. I shared something on fb about hg as it's hg awareness month and I had a friend on fb comment on it. I don't know her, only sold her something once I think lol.

She asked what medication I was on, which I replied 'ondanestron, it's the only one that's worked for me' and she replied 'oh I was prescribed much stronger stuff than that, I was really bad'. I was really offended by her comment and it made me look like I'm going through nothing.

Can I just ask, is there anything stronger that they prescribe other than ondanestron? She said she had tried it and it did nothing for her - which is fair enough, doesn't work for everyone - but as far as I was aware, that it's pretty much the last resort when it comes to prescribing? I didn't reply to her as I'm not in the mood for having a 'who's got it worse war' - although I think I'd win Wink

But I'm also interested to know if there is anything stronger cos if there is, I'd love to give it a go lol.

Really hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected x

eallison88 · 05/04/2018 21:02

bitzy as far as I'm aware ondansetron is top of the tree. I'd block her and move on. You don't need that kind of crap. I know how awful it is to have someone playing the my sickness was worse than yours (a colleague I can just about tolerate played it with me... I was totally sympathetic and really felt for her, asked her about her ketones and what meds she'd tried... she then said that she hadn't gone to the doctor cos she was too worried about the baby.. sorry love, if you're puking a million times a day, you're going to the gp for some help to keep something inside you so you can grow the damned (beloved) parasite. But, that aside...!)
Just block her, ignore what she's said, and focus on you and getting through today.

bitzy12 · 05/04/2018 21:21

@eallison88 thank you, I will do. I know she has suffered with it this pregnancy (this is her 5th child) as she was putting it on fb at the time. She mentioned in her comment that she had to be admitted once as she was so bad. I felt like replying 'well I've been admitted 5 times now and I've had this in every pregnancy being admitted at least 5 times....so there'....but that would be very childish of me lol.

I'll come back on tomorrow and explain what's been happening as some may be able to relate but I've just taken my medication which has knocked me out so think that's it for me tonight. Night night x thanks for the support x

eallison88 · 05/04/2018 21:25

ditzy hoping for a restful night for you (and everyone, of course!)
