I've only seen my midwife once I'm 24+1 and I've probably spoken to her twice as she never answers the phone or my texts? Is this normal?

Is this your first?

Makingworkwork · 16/03/2018 14:28

Why have you only seen her once? This is not normal.

ginandnappies · 16/03/2018 14:29

You've only seen her once? Definitely not normal in my area. I seen my midwife twice before 12 weeks then every 4 weeks until later on and it went down to 2 weeks. Is there only one midwife in your area? Can you phone and request a new one? X

strawberrysparkle · 16/03/2018 14:30

That sounds normal to me. First time I met my midwife was 16 weeks then again at 24 weeks and I wouldn't even know how to contact her!

My booking appointment and scan appointments were all at the antenatal clinic.

hhhxxx · 16/03/2018 17:00

Yes it's my first, I'm only 20 so all very new to me. I didn't find out till I was 12 weeks, I haven't had any vaccinations and I'm really ill at the minute. Just had a scan that I had to book myself and the first scan I was 18 weeks and baby was in a funny position so couldn't do all the checks and my midwife was meant to book me another for two weeks later but she didn't. Sent her a text today so have a temperature of 41 degrees and have been either dripping with sweat or shivering I'm so cold.

Think the fact I'm not well and she's not answering pisses me off as I don't want to go to the hospital if this is normal, but with no midwife to talk to how am I supposed to know ?

Sounds like you might need to ring 111 and speak to a GP if you're unwell OP?

Ivebeenaroundtheblock · 16/03/2018 17:04

Don’t you have a gp? Having a fever is not pregnancy related.

CrumbsThatsQuick · 16/03/2018 17:05

If you have a temp of 41 call your GP or NHS 111 out of hours for advice. You dont have to wait for your midwife to get back to you.

ProseccoPoppy · 16/03/2018 17:06

I have only ever seen my midwife for routine appointments - don’t have a number for her otherwise, I think this varies by area. Yours doesn’t sound great though. If you are worried (and I would be by that temperature) I would call the day assessment unit at the hospital - mine has always been brilliant and really willing to talk through stuff or see me if I am concerned.

Call the number in the front of your notes. I found texting was generally a one way street with my midwife! Since they could be mid delivery / working night shifts etc texting isn't a great way to get hold of them urgently.

ForeverHopeful21 · 16/03/2018 17:33

It must be frustrating if she isn't getting back to you but I think your condition is more for 111 rather than your midwife.

If it helps I only saw my community midwife at 16 weeks, 20 weeks, 25 weeks, and then every 3 weeks after that. I didn't have her phone number and had no other contact with her other than my routine appointments. If I was worried about something pregnancy related I had to call the number on my notes. For everything else I would call 111 or my GP.

Shaunieh95 · 16/03/2018 17:37

Mine is crap never answers, when she does it's 3 days later when problem already been solved. Hospital not happy with her also as wasn't plotting fundal heights and turned out my baby's growth had tailed and could have been detected few weeks prior.

Advice I'd give is any problem at all call either your day unit or triage, there are always the kindest midwives who will always answer any question you have x

I've only ever seen my named midwife at my booking appointment and I'm 26 weeks!

I didn't realise I was supposed to book in my 16 week appt with her myself at the GP surgery, I tried to contact her numerous times around that time, left multiple voicemails, left voicemails at the maternity hospital etc asking whether I was meant to book the appt or if I would be allocated one (this is my first and the previous appts were all obv allocated to me so I didn't know), only the GP surgery receptionist told me I was supposed to book it myself through them. My midwife never once got back to me, so I missed that appt entirely and had one at like 24 weeks. When I went to that appt, it was a completely different midwife there than the one I'm meant to see.

I have another appt next week for the 28 week appt - about a week early as the midwife is only at my GP surgery on Mondays and the Monday of my 28 weeks I'll be abroad on holiday and the week after that is a bank holiday. No idea whether it will actually be her or not at the appt though as last time it wasn't.
