Job interview...

Hello ladies

I’d really appreciate some advice.

I’m 11weeks and resigned from my last job whilst I was undergoing ivf in January.

I wanted to get a job for some extra cash so have been applying for basic office work.

I’ve got an interview next week by which point I’ll be 12 weeks. Do I tell them I’m pregnant? It’s only part time work so it may be something that I want to return to after having my baby but i can’t say for certain that i will go back to work because our plan was always for me to stay at home for at least the first year.

If I get the job, I’ll feel a bit guilty for not being straight with them but I also don’t want the fact I’m pregnant to be a factor in their decision.

Don't tell them

El1995 · 12/03/2018 11:25

I didn't tell my current employer I was pregnant as I thought that they'd see me as a burden rather than a viable candidate, I went to several job interviews whereby I told them I was pregnant and I didn't get the job, with the final job interview (think I was 18week) I didn't tell them I was pregnant until after they'd offered me the job, and to be honest they were really good about it. If you're the perfectly suited candidate they shouldn't mind that you are pregnant, but I personally wouldn't tell them until later on (I told them at 22 weeks).

No need to tell them at 12 weeks - from memory, you have to tell them 13 weeks, or thereabouts, before your expected date of confinement, so not yet by a long chalk.

It's 25 weeks pregnant you need to let them know by.

Thanks guys. I’ll keep it quiet then. I’m already pretty massive so they’ll hopefully just think I overdid it at Christmas!

Frauneuer I'm waiting for a call with a time for interview and I'll be 12 weeks this week too. Not going to tell them because I'd rather wait and see if I'm offered the job first. Otherwise no matter what reason they give me I'm my head it will be pregnancy related.

Congratulations on the pregnancy and good luck with the interview. As others have said the latest disclosure date is 25 weeks so I wouldn't say anything at interview. And don't worry about them being able to tell - first trimester is extremely unlikely to be massive enough for a stranger to notice.
