For those who've used dopplers, how long did it take you to find the heartbeat the first time you used it?
I know some people don't agree with this. I'm not in any way using it instead of medical advice.
Thanks, Emma x

It depends on many factors
What’s your weight like
Do you have belly fat

I was bmi 34 and heard mine at 14 weeks she was my 4th but they say don’t use it often it’s not safe

It gets much easier after 10-12 weeks. We also tried to limit use, but it is incredibly reassuring.

I usually only listen for 5 mins or so and if I can’t find it then just assume the baby is in the wrong position and give up. I’ll try again later. If I find the heartbeat it’s usually after a few minutes so I don’t really keep trying for too long. The first couple of times I couldn’t find anything but the third time I found it quite easily. Not really an answer to your question but hope it helps anyway...

I found heart beat straight away, really low near the hairline. I was 13 weeks.

GreenMeerkat · 11/03/2018 11:03

I used mine at 10 weeks and found HB both times.

Please DON'T panic if you don't find it. It can be difficult and can cause a lot of undue stress

Thank you so much for all your replies.
I don't really have any belly fat and I'm only 11 weeks though so I'll just wait and see. Xx

10 weeks with my first and second, 14 weeks with my third (but I’ve got more fat on me now)

We got mine at 16 weeks. My h8sband finds it first time ever time.. I've never managed to find it myself 🙈

I finally found mine at 10w5d and about an inch above my pubic bone. It was hard to find but it eventually transpired that baby likes to hang out near my artery so it took until baby got bigger for the heartbeat sound to overtake the sound of my artery which meant the doppler could get a proper reading.

I will say that it does depend on where your placenta is aswell. I have an anterior placenta which makes it harder to find the heartbeat especially in the first trimester.
