Hi, I would appreciate any input/opinions on this as a first time parent I have no clue and would rather not waste money!

Baby is due in August and we are in the UK if that influences answers

How many short sleeve bodysuits?
How many long sleeve bodysuits?
How many sleepsuits, Do babies even wear sleep suits in summer?!

I would like to swaddle him/her, I was thinking of getting a Summer Infant one or similar, if he/she gets on with it how many would I need?

If using sleeping bags/gro bags, how many do you have?

I am a serious planner and like to get my head round things, Family members/close friends have kindly said they would like to buy a few bits but I would like to be able to “top up” the necessities to a sensible number of items without over buying when the time comes.

So my best friend has three kids and works on the basis of 8 for the basic things.

So my list is
8 short sleeve bodysuits/vests (no need for long until winter)
8 sleepsuits
2 growbags/swaddle mes (one to wear, one to wash). But if it's really hot they could end up in just their nappy.
2 cardigans

I have this saved for checking what to wear: www.babies.co.uk/sleeping/a/getting-the-temperature-right/

I agree with Clare. You’ll find your way soon enough. How many things you need will depend on how sicky or poo-ey your baby is, how often you wash, how quick you can dry clothes etc. Start Clare’s list and see how you go. You may well be inundated with clothes as presents. All i’d add is a sunhat, as they will be inexplicably absent from the shops by July.

I used large muslins to swaddle my son at first and had 4. But I used them for everything- sunshade, swaddle, floor time and so on. Now he's older I have 3 sleep bags. 1 to use 1 to wash 1 for spare in case of leakages 2 nights in a row!

I think 7-10 vests short and long sleeved.
My son was always in sleep suits to start with so I had 18!!! It was a bit much 7-10 again would have been plenty!

I also made the mistake of getting him really cute smart outfits, some with braces... he wire them for a photo op and that's it. Soft leggings, tshirts and all in ones were what he was happiest in and you can layer them up or didn't depending on the weather.
