Chocolate in early pregnancy

I’m 5W+5 and nausea has really hit this week. I haven’t been sick but constantly feel on the edge of it. The only thing that makes me feel better/I can tolerate eating is chocolate cake but I’m worried about caffeine intake (I’m only having a slice a day). Is it terrible to carry on with this habit?

It’s fine!!!!

You will be fine eating this amount of chocolate.

MochiBean · 10/03/2018 16:45

I have been living off of chocolate biscuits without a second thought.

There is so little caffeine in chocolate comparatively I am certain a piece of cake won't do you any harm!

Windowgazer123 · 10/03/2018 16:59

have you looked at the guidelines?!
www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/limit-caffeine-during-pregnancy.aspx?categoryid=54&subcategoryid=130

Clearly says you should try and limit caffeine to 200mg a day. That’s 2 mugs of instant coffee.
It says most 50g chocolate bars contain 25mg.
That’s 8 chocolate bars a day.

What is the worry?! Or have you read something else?

Windowgazer123 · 10/03/2018 17:00

I get you want to be careful but you are clearly not eating anywhere near the limit.

It's fine. Funnily enough chocolate cake was the only thing that stopped me feeling sick in my third pregnancy. Just be careful you don't end up the size of a house like I did Sad

All I drink is tea
What is the issue with caffeine ? Think I am being a bit clueless here

Mycatsarebetterthanyours · 10/03/2018 17:45

To have the amount of chocolate that would tip you over the edge in terms of caffeine you'd actually be more worried about being and likely to be sick as your have to eat so much of it.
