8w 2d red blood when wiped

I had a private scan last week which was all fine. This morning I had some red blood/discharge when I wiped.

Tmi - I am very constipated and had just pood for the first time in days. I do have like some that can bleed but I'm pretty sure this was vaginal blood.

I've got my booking in appointment on Monday. If nothing else happens should I just tell her then? If I get more should I phone the epu?

This is my third and I never had this before 😔

Hello,

Try not to worry - I’m sure it’s all fine. It’s never a bad idea to call the EPU, they’ve always been extremely helpful to me and when my friend had bleeding at eight weeks they took her in for a scan straight away (baby was fine and she’s currently 38 weeks)

somersetsoul · 10/03/2018 10:16

My local EPU is shut at weekends! There's nothing now.

So what am I supposed to do? My two local EPU's are shut at weekends. If it starts again 111?

Well tbh and it’s orobaky nothing if it was an early loss they couldn’t do anything BUT you should maybe just rest all weekend no heavy lifting etc no baths as infection no sex as that can make it worse.

Think positive it’s prob just constipation bleeding hun

When I had bleeding in early pregnancy, the EPU advice was just to keep an eye on it at home, and if it got worse or was painful or if it was still going after a week to go in for a scan then.

Really sorry you're dealing with this OP. I know it's terrifying Flowers

I'm going to keep my feet up and see what happens. Thank you all x

Let us know how you are I’m sure it’s all okay

gryffen · 10/03/2018 12:10

Yeah happens to me a lot too.

Constipation straining does cause bleeding, normally the red comes first in small patches and then tails off to brown discharge which is old blood.

For constipation get some stool softner such as Laxido which you can buy across the counter or get prescription for.

You can go via 111 if worried and they will see you at some point or advise you to wait until Monday.

Still all ok and no more bleeding. I've just done a digital that is still 3 + weeks.

I'll be seeing a midwife Monday at my appointment so if this weekend is ok I'll tell her then. I'll also ask about the softener, thank you 🙂

No matter on other people's stories saying they bled and was fine please go get checked. Seen far too many stories on this site this week of people not going to be checked out and not been a good outcome. Not saying it won't be but bleeding in pregnancy is NOT normal xxx

windchimesabotage · 10/03/2018 12:32

I had some blood when I wiped in the early weeks of my pregnancy and it was all fine. They never knew for sure what it was but my midwife said that its quite common and can be anything from constipation to implantation bleeding. She said if its just when you wipe on a couple of occasions, or spotting, or its dark brown in colour and its not accompanied by any pain, then it is usually something not harmful to the fetus.

It can be a sign of miscarriage... some people can miscarry with no symptoms at all! But its not actually likely and deffo not a certain indicator of any problems so try not to worry!! If you have no real pain and the blood was a small amount and the test is still saying you are pregnant then I think its pretty likely that it is not anything to massively worry about. Do tell your midwife tho because it also could be a uti or something like that which would need some treatment.

Seen far too many stories on this site this week of people not going to be checked out and not been a good outcome.

Unfortunately, there's nothing anyone, including a doctor, can do to change the outcome at this point - the pregnancy either will or won't continue, and there isn't any treatment for threatened miscarriage. Those bad outcomes wouldn't have been any better if the woman had been seen straight away. The only case where you need to be seen as an emergency is when it could be ectopic - and OP knows her pregnancy is intrauterine.

As pp have said, this may well be nothing at all to worry about, OP, especially as you're not 100% sure it even is vaginal blood. Even if it is, lots of women with healthy pregnancies bleed. I would definitely contact the EPU on Monday but there's probably nothing to be done before then, so try to rest and not panic - so much easier said than done, I know!
