HCG injections when pregnant

Hi everyone,

I’m posting on here about this as I have found it almost impossible to find any discussions, internet articles or studies about HCG injections to prevent recurrent miscarriage.

I have had 3 consecutive miscarriages, so when I got pregnant for the 4th time, the hospital have started me on weekly HCG injections. The injections do seem to be working as I’m now 7 weeks pregnant and there is a heartbeat, which I have never had before with my previous pregnancies.

I feel very very poorly however, and dread each injection.

What I would like to know is:

  1. Has anyone else had/is currently having these weekly injections?
  2. Do they also make you feel rubbish?
  3. Did they work in sustaining your pregnancy?
  4. how long did you have to have them for?

Thank you!

Anyone at all? Still on these injections and still so so sick. Someone out there must have had experience with them?

Hello.... I hope you are well.... I'm currently in the exact same situation and got my injections prescribed today...... Did u have a successful pregnancy and did the sickness subside? X

Hello Furbabymum15,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Yes, the HCG injections did work and my son was born October 2018. I never got better though and was sick (vomiting) until 5 days after he was born. It was totally debilitating. I hope you don’t have the same reaction to them!

I have since suffered miscarriages again trying to have a second baby, but the HCG did not work for my last pregnancy.

Good luck. Please let me know how you get on!

Aww thankyou so much for replying and I'm so happy to hear about the birth of your son.

Also sorry to hear about your miscarriages I know how awful they are. I'm manifesting good things for you xx

I only had my 1st injection today so will see how I go it's 2 per wk and I get my 1st scan in 2 wks so fingers crossed.... I've got a dull backache like my period is on its way..... Scary times x

Hi @Furbabymum15 - I'm just wondering how you got on in your pregnancy? I have had 3 miscarriages and am now 4+2w pregnant with my fourth pregnancy (no living children). I've had my first couple of Gonasi 5000 HCG injections, and will be continuing on 2 per week going forward. Feeling very anxious about having another loss and there seems a LONG way to go!

Hey lovely and Congratulations on your amazing news xx
Unfortunately for me the pregnancy was a miscarriage at 10 wks....baby was measuring 5 wks at 6 wks then by the time I was 10 wks baby was only measuring 8wks. I got pregnant again and I was prescribed progesterone this time but again I had miscarriage number 5 at 10 wks also. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but I've been very unlucky and I'm sure you will be fine. Stay positive lovely and I wish you the very best ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear this @Furbabymum15 .

@Haz1990 wishing you luck with the HCG injections.

After my 5th miscarriage I also tried progesterone for my 7th pregnancy which resulted in my second son born May 2023 :-). Sometimes I think it wasn't about HCG or progesterone at all, it was about perseverance and just waiting for the ones that want to stick. I also read "It starts with the egg" and implemented everything I could from the book.

Sending you both baby dust x

@Haz1990 hi lovely I was just wondering how you are getting along on the HCG injections? I do hope all is well and you're not feeling too ill with them xx

Haz1990 · 29/11/2023 10:10

@Furbabymum15 Hey :) The HCG injections seem to be going well, I've just turned 9 weeks today and so far so good, we've had some scans and baby seems to be growing well with a heartbeat.

We've found out since being pregnant that my husband has a balanced translocation (following us having our karyotype testing done after a Trisomy 9 loss), so that's added a whole new level of anxiety. We're in discussions with genetic counselors to see what testing we want to have done to check this baby's chromosomes. Just feeling grateful for every day that passes that we're one step closer, although very aware we have a long road ahead.

How are you getting on? xxx

Furbabymum15 · 06/01/2024 10:31

Hey lovely , sorry I've just seen that you replied.

I'm so glad that everything is going well for you and hope it still is the case. Did you get your testing done?

I'm good thankyou, I'm plodding on. Not trying to conceive anymore after 5 consecutive losses and considering my age I've given up.

Sending you love and best wishes xx
