20 week scan at 23 weeks he got his way in the end

Just got back from my 2nd scan, which was late as I found out I was pregnant at 16 weeks. I've read that it is meant to take between half and hour and 45 minutes but it seemed to take only 20 ish. At the end of the scan she told me that she didn't see anything concerning. She asked me of I wanted to know the sex (was an ongoing bone of contention between me and partner as he wanted to know). At the last scan they wouldn't tell him but this one she didn't ask my permission, just told him discreetly at the end when I left the room. So here's hoping he doesn't slip up!

My main concern though is that she didn't say anything about the neck thickness or nuchal fold? I can't recall her calling it out to the person taking notes either. It would be silly of me to think that she missed this part so does this mean that it was normal or would she not have checked for this?

I think the nuchal fold measurement is only taken at the 12 week scan, as it cannot be accurately done later. I may be wrong, so do ask your midwife if you are unsure.

Thank you. I missed the 12 week scan. At my first scan they dated me at 19+5. I'm hoping that they would have seen something on either one of them.

Yes much too late for the neck measurement.
I hope your partner keeps the secret!

Nuchal fold can only be measured up to 13.5 weeks so they won’t have been able to do it even at your first scan. I had this as it was measured that I was 14 weeks at 12 week scan, so I had quad blood test at 16 weeks (best time to do it apparently) but I don’t know if there is a latest date it works cut off for that, so perhaps 19.5 weeks for your first scan was too late as well? Anyway, congratulations that all is fine with the baby, they won’t stop scanning until they have seen and checked and recorded all the relevant data so I’m sure it’s all good!

Yep, they can’t do nuchal measurements that late.

Thanks all. I've just been reading more about it and it seems there could have been markers that may have been picked up such as smaller nose or limbs so that's something at least.

By the 20ish week anomaly scan other markets are used to detect fetal abnormalities. It's literally the reason for the scan, do don't worry. It's one case where no news really is good news!
