Induced - Baby's head not engaged

I'm due to be induced Monday due to some kidney problems (mine, not baby) and will be 38+3.

Have had some other issues too, lots of amniotic fluid plus large baby (95th percentile) but being induced for the kidney thing.

The only thing is when I visited midwife today she said the baby was still floating very high and I might not be induced as they don't like to do it if baby is too high due to cord prolapse (which I assume can be made worse by all the extra amniotic fluid)

Anyone been induced with baby not engaged? I must admit I feel like I'm getting conflicting advice from the MW and the Dr but I guess the Dr might not know baby isn't engaged yet.

Feeling nervous!!

Is this your first baby ? Are they head down but not engaged yet ? I’m due to be induced in 12 days and baby is head down but not engaged but it’s my second baby x

Yes - induction, waters broke and 50 hours of contractions but baby's head never actually engaged properly! DC just wasn't for coming. Emergency section in the end and all was fine.

You can do some specific exercises to try to get the head to engage between now and the induction but some babies will and some won't.

I don't know much about cord prolapse but if you are going to have a risk of a medical emergency I suppose at least you'd be in hospital and being monitored.

Good luck whatever happens!

Yes first baby so from what I've heard/ read the head engages earlier but the midwife said the baby is still floating quite high up.

Just wondered really if they will still induce, baby is head down and has been for ages, but just nowhere near engaging ☹️

Oh I’m not sure then , I thought they engaged quite early on your first ... but please let us know I’m intrigued and I hope all goes well for you Monday Smile

That's exactly what I thought but at appt Friday she was still floating high up, despite being my first baby. Feeling quite nervous as to what will happen now!

I got induced at nearly 35 weeks and the baby wasn't engaged. Because I was already in hospital I think they were ok with it so it might be the same with you. They just told me that if my waters went I needed to Get on all 4s and pull the emergency cord.

I was and it was awful and lasted over 17 hours of painful contractions, however in the end once the head engaged I went from 3cm to delivery In half an hour
