I have the WORST sinus headache I have ever had, it has been going since about 5pm yesterday, I barely slept last night and now I have to spend all day looking after a climbing 15 month old when moving my head slightly makes me want to weep.

Paracetemol isn't touching it so is there anything you guys can think off that I can pick up at the supermarket that will help, I have a cold compress (well, a damp muslin!) but DD keeps running off with it!

I would havew a word wit the pharmacist at the supermarket.
Is there anyone who can help yu with 15 month old/ other half , family, friend?

Sudafed is fab. Make sure you get the non drowsy version or you'll be knocked out.

Chirpygirl · 06/05/2007 09:12

Sorry, I didn't add that I am 18 weeks pregnant. Can I take sudafed?
And I have no-one to help with DD (poor me!) until DH gets home at around 3.

Aaah, sorry I've just googled it and there seems to be conflicting opinion.

Poor you. Can you do things like nasal sprays or at least menthol crystals in steaming water?

kreamkrackers · 06/05/2007 09:44

you can take cocodamol but not with paracetamol as it contains that and codein. it's safe during pregnancy as long as it isn't used in excess as it can be addictive. i think you can only get it from a chemist though.

Babylovesmuffins · 06/05/2007 09:56

Oh poor you Chirpy Lots of sympathy.

I find Karvol capsules burst into boiling water are fantastic - you can also burst the capsules onto a tissue or muslin and just inhale it. When you burst one in a bowl of boiling water (careful it's not too hot so you don't burn your face ), use it as a sort of a steam sauna and put a towel over your head to really clear the sinuses.

You should check with the pharmacist to see if it's ok to use - the instructions say it is "not expected to constitute a hazard during pregnancy" but like everything else it recommends you check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Hope you're feeling better soon x

I have some karvol and vicks upstairs in DD's room so shall give them a go.
I called midwife as I am not coping well and she wants me to see out of hours gp so I have an appointment in an hour, hopefully they can sort something out as I can't look after DD properly like this.

At least I did all my tidying up yesterday so the house is nice and neat!

That's good you've got a GP appointment. Hope it goes well and you're feeling better soon

BeachBunni · 06/05/2007 11:12

Oh you poor thing, sinus pain is really unpleasant.

My mum swears by concentrated menthol crystals as she can't take anything due to heart meds. You can buy them in a little tube. Again just stck them into a bowl and steam with a towel over your head. They are REALLY strong and liable to to make your eyes and nose run but relieve some of the pressure.

foxybrown · 06/05/2007 11:19

i go for 4head (I think its called - its the one you sweep across your forehead). Its a mentholated stick remedy and I find it quite effective. It might help a sinus headache too.

ceolas · 06/05/2007 11:37

I have sinus trouble regularly - deep sympathy! Menthol crystals are great and should be OK when you're pregnant.

hope it improves soon

Chirpygirl · 06/05/2007 13:40

Got some 4head stuff, I used it when pregnant with DD, it's great stuff.

GP says it is probably a stress headache as I didn't wince when she poked me in the head so to relax and take it easy......yeah, that's going to happen!

Thanks for advice and sympathy!
