c section & sterilisation

Hi all
Have been given my date for my c section & sterilisation & i'm dreading it. I hated my last c section & was desperate to avoid another but no such luck.
Have decided no more babies after this one, but i'm dreading the fact it's gonna hurt like hell.
So if anyone out there thinks that a c section is better than actually goingbthrough labour please think again labour is easier, less painful & quicker to get over (takes 3 yrs to recover from a c section as it's major abdo surgery)
Good thing is in 3 weeks & 6 days (june 1st) my new bump will be making his presence known.

kellogs, i've had 3 "normal" births and two c sections. they were all different. my last c section was much, much better than the one before. what helped was that i talked to all the staff doing the surgery, before and at the time, reminding them of the problems the last time and they did all they could to make it better. if you've had a bad experience it won't necessarily be the same this time.

Well, I've experienced labour and found it absolutely horrific and suffered from weeks of panic attacks and at least a year of misery & unhappiness as a result. I still have severe claustrophobia which was greatly worsened by labour. My caesareans, on the other hand, were absolutely bloody wonderful and fantastic and I was fully recovered in weeks. Three years? That, I'm afraid, is nonsense. But I really wish you well. I'm sorry you had a horrible time last time - was it planned?

kellogs · 05/05/2007 22:45

Hi grannycrackers
they were horrible didn't give me enough local before shoving big needles in my back, took 40 mins wouldn't let my partner in too hold my hand until they'd put in the spine block. they were rude & obnoxious wanted the baby at home put everybody point blank refused, so meant to be sterilised after my last baby even though i signed the forms the surgeon thought i was joking & didn't do it, hence the fact after taking 2 pills a day i got pregnant again.
I'm really stressing about going in & having to deal with the same mw & docs as the last time they made a special time horrible stressful & v v upsetting.
I hope that when i talked to the anthesist he actually listened.

Hi aloha
yes it was planned, but on the day it was rushed cos the mw were sat round a desk talking & forgot to get me prepared for the surgery. I was told that by the consultant who is looking after me in this pregnancy.
my 1st 2 births were easier than the c section but every person is different.

i think it's usual for them to not let anyone in while they do the spinal block. have you got anyone to go with you and support you?

Busybean · 05/05/2007 23:08

My SIL had a c sec , then a vbac, and decided shed raher have another c sec than the pain she experienced! lol

kellogs · 05/05/2007 23:17

granny my partners coming in with me, we were told this time he can come in whilst i'm having the spinal block be good for him to see what i have to go through to have his child
i hate not being able to move around & i hate gaving drips & stuff also the fact you have to spend days in hospital. would rather have the pain of child birth easy to recover from.

my Dh came in with me while they did the spinal. I asked in advance..they hmmmed and said oh we'll need to ask the anaethetist. Came back and said fine no problem.

I hate being in hospital too. I only stayed in 24 hours after my section - you dont have to stay in for days

kellogs · 06/05/2007 20:23

Hi kristinam
Being sterilised at the same time so they won't let me out before 3 days, i've already spoken to the consultant anthesist who remembered me from my last c section he said no problems with my other half coming in he said if they said no then i was to tell them he said so. hopefully this time it will be ok.

i was sterilised as well and came home the next day. And was very pleased too! Glad they will let your Dp in

Twinmummyx2 · 07/05/2007 08:04

Hallo!

I have had 4 normal births and 2 c-secs and been sterilized with the last c-section (obv..lol)

I personally perfered the c-sections.

With the sterilized c-section it was a bit more uncomfy . I felt very bloated and like i had massive trapped wind, it only lasted a few hours and peppermint tea is meant to help with it. But nice to get it all over and done with at once.

I was in 3 days.

kellogs · 12/05/2007 20:38

I must admit i'm looking forward to not having to worry about getting pregnant again, hopefully i'll only be in for the 3 days. my section & sterilisation is planned for a friday & i'll be in over the weekend so i'm hoping i'll be let out on sunday it would be so much easier.

I'm with Aloha, my first labour was horrendous and I wound up with forceps delivery. Took me ages to recover from and I've never been the same down below.

I honestly wished I had had a csection, and yes, I have had some major surgeries in the past, I know what they're like.

My second labour was thankfully faster because, like Aloha, I now have dreadful claustrophia and am prone to panic attacks and severe anxiety as a result of my first birth experience.
