Anyone else not had a scan until 12 weeks?

Just that.
Lots of people seem to have reassurance and dating scans. I'm planning on waiting until my 12 week one. It seems ages away! I'm 8+6.

Me. I don’t usually. Had 2 children. I think ‘reassurance’ scans usually offer the opposite

Brownbear84 · 07/03/2018 20:46

Me,12 week is tomorrow finally!!! I did have a scan at 8+6 as I was having pains but didn't pay for it xx

famousfour · 07/03/2018 20:48

Only ever at 12wks earliest. Are these reassurance scans private?

FallenAngel89 · 07/03/2018 20:50

Had mine at 13+2 weeks. Apparently they're between 11 and 14 weeks now. Was a bit upset waiting so long as it doesn't feel real for me until then and I can never fully settle but bub is doing just great and kept sticking their bum out 😂 I'm 15 weeks now ☺

YerAuntFanny · 07/03/2018 20:50

My first scan was at 17+4 because our area was understaffed and over subscribed (this was 2006 though), I thought nothing of it until I moved areas and they were appalled!

With DC2 it was at 12 weeks as we don't get reassurance scans here unless there are medical reasons behind it.

WildCherryBlossom · 07/03/2018 20:54

I have always waited until the 12 week scan.

MrsL2016 · 07/03/2018 21:00

Just the 12 week and 20 week scan here too. I think private scans can often cause more anxiety than they solve. Although now 38 weeks and haven't seen my baby in months! Ready to meet him now.

CaMePlaitPas · 07/03/2018 21:03

I got mine done at what I thought was 11/12 weeks it turned out I was closer to 16! The sonographer told me off as baby's spine was no longer visible so I had to do a blood test for Downs.

Reader1984 · 07/03/2018 21:21

Me.. Had mine yesterday at exactly 12 weeks.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 07/03/2018 21:29

I had one at 10 weeks because of unexplained bleeding but yes, agree most people have reassurance scans now going by MN. I wouldn't have had one other than because of the trip to A&E

JennyBlueWren · 07/03/2018 21:30

I was 13 weeks when I had my "12 week" scan! Had more than enough scans since though due to a rather large and growing baby.

Pregnancy is a long drawn out waiting game. People like to say it passes quickly but a lot of it doesn't. It is 9 months!

Waitingonasmile · 07/03/2018 21:30

The 12 week scan is the dating scan!

ClareB83 · 07/03/2018 21:32

I was planning on waiting til 12 weeks. Only had one early because I had bleeding.

However, that first scan photo is my favourite because it's the only one that fits both twins. At 12 weeks they were too big.

I'd definitely have a scan again around 9 weeks (if I ever do this again) for that reason. Bit mad I know but I wouldn't be able to resist.

DragonsAndCakes · 07/03/2018 21:35

I think most people wait till 12 weeks. Hope it goes quickly for you!

Twitchett22 · 07/03/2018 21:36

I found out i was pg at 6 weeks and just accepted that I'd have to wait another 6 weeks for my scan. It was the longest 6 weeks ever but it had never occurred to me to have an early scan, I'd never known anyone have one until coming on MN. I personally think it would have made my pg feel longer

Tiredmum100 · 07/03/2018 21:38

12 weeks was my first scan for both dc.

Huuwayeye · 07/03/2018 21:38

I had my first scan at 12 weeks. Not long after discovering I was pregnant. I didn't know people had earlier scans actually.

MeadowHay · 07/03/2018 21:40

Me, I think most people don't, it's just that the people who do are extra anxious so are far more likely to be posting about it on MN. I mean most people wouldn't make a thread or mention it if they were waiting for the dating scan because why would they, it's not out of the ordinary, iyswim.

SheldonCooper77 · 07/03/2018 21:41

My first DS you didn't get a 12 week scan in my area.
20 weeks was the first and only one you got unless there were any issues

PrettyWisdomous · 07/03/2018 21:44

I had two early scans due to bleeding, one at 6wks (approx, no heartbeat seen) and one at 10wks. In total, I had at least, 10 scans in what was a very anxious 9 months.

8DaysAWeek · 07/03/2018 21:45

I had a private early scan with DS at 7 weeks. Can't say I was overly anxious - no more than the majority of women would be - I just wanted one so got one! Seemed like an awful long wait to 12 weeks.

Ttc #2 and I am pretty positive we won't be having any private scans this time round. All that disposable cash we had back before DS was born is loooooong gone now!!

Commuterface · 07/03/2018 21:49

I thought most women had their first scan at 12 weeks? I had a scan at 7 weeks with DD1 because we had had private fertility treatment and the clinic offered it to us - it cost £100. I became pregnant with DD2 naturally so didn’t have a scan until 12 weeks. Also just to point out the 7 week scan was internal.

Bobbiepin · 07/03/2018 21:50

Went in for 12 week, found it was only 8 weeks so got another 12 week. No intentional early scans here. The first one was a quick measurement and done. I think we were out in 5 mins ( 3 of which were wiping the gel off!)

LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/03/2018 07:21

I really don't think that it is standard to pay for a reassurance scan in a normal pregnancy - not uncommon, but not everyone's doing it. As a pp said, you think that on here because people who do might post about it, whereas those who don't don't have anything to say about it. I had early scans on the NHS because I had three miscarriages before this pregnancy, but I don't know anyone else in real life who had a scan before 12 weeks. Trust me, I'd rather have been the one who got to assume that everything would be happy and normal in my pregnancy than be the one who went for multiple early scans, even if it did mean I didn't have to wait as long!

flumpybear · 08/03/2018 07:40

I had loads of scans with all my pregnancies but because of problems and miscarriages but otherwise I would only expect a 12 week scan
