Do they always correct due date at dating scan?

Even if it is just a few days out from LMP dates. My LMP was 18th Dec 2017, which gives me a due date of 24th September. However I have a slightly shorter 26 day cycle, and last time they moved my due date forward by 3 days.

I really want to keep 24th September as due date on my MATB1 as it will make a HUGE difference to my SMP for the first 6 weeks. I'll get a bonus on 15th June which will be included in my qualifying weeks if my due date is after 23rd September. But it wont be included in the SMP calc if they move due date to 22nd September or earlier. The difference will be about £8.5k gross additional SMP, and will mean I can afford to take 9 or 10 months off work instead of just 6. It will be so disappointing if i lose out on this for the sake of one day. Do you think a sonographer will have any flexibility and be able to not change the dates? My scan is next week...

No idea if there is any flexibility but mine got moved a day which seemed pointless.

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 14:30

I have an awful feeling that they are going to move it...I will be devastated if they do

IME if you are absolutely sure of your dates, luteal phase etc then midwives are often happy to stick with your EDD based on LMP.

Mol1628 · 07/03/2018 14:36

Why devastated? It’s just an estimation it means nothing.

Bluebirdsky · 07/03/2018 14:37

The sonographer can only record the due date based on your scan measurements from that day but this doesn't mean that has to be the overall due date that you go with. Talk with your midwife or consultant to see if you can stick with your LMP due date if it's only a few days difference.

Mol1628 · 07/03/2018 14:38

Sorry my phone didn’t load the post properly. If it’s just a few days out they might not change it if you say you are sure

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 14:39

Keeping original due date means an extra 4 months with my baby off due to the extra SMP i'll get!

Thanks - I'll talk to my midwife - I'm 100% sure of my LMP, but not the date of conception.

They didn't change mine. I have a long cycle, and I would have preferred my due date to have been adjusted to reflect that. Not making any adjustment meant I was called in for induction a few days earlier than I thought necessary. I am fairly sure I would have gone into labour naturally if they had left me another 3 days. I was an older mother hence induction at 40 weeks.

If they want to move it maybe explain why you would prefer them not to.

Twitchett22 · 07/03/2018 14:59

IME they usually push the due date back not bring it forward if they change it. They pushed mine back 4 days, still don't get why as original due date was 1st day LMP, new due date is 4 days into period so obviously i didnt conceive on either of those days anyway. Goes above my head but im sure if its only a couple of days they would be happy to keep it the same?

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 16:46

Fingers crossed they will keep it the same if i ask nicely enough!

heatherxo · 07/03/2018 16:53

My due date has never changed. It's always been exact from first day of last period. It just depends on how big baby is measuring

pastabest · 07/03/2018 17:05

Will a few days really make that much of a difference?

Eligibility for SMP is based on average weekly earnings over an 8 week period (weeks 17 - 25) . You are eligible for SMP as long as you earn at least an average of £113 a week between those 8 qualifying weeks BUT you don't have to earn at least £113 every week, you could just earn £904 in one week (8x£113) and still be eligible.

Eligibility for SMP only has any impact on what you get paid for the first 6 weeks of Mat leave (90% of normal pay).

So unless you are literally right on the limit a few days shouldn't make a difference, or the bonus must be humongous to make that much of a difference?

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 17:20

Will a few days really make that much of a difference?

@pastabest Yes, the annual bonus is being paid at the very end of week 25. It will be £12k, so will increase my AWE by £1500 per week. I will get 90% of that again in my first 6 weeks of mat leave, so an extra 8.1k, on top of my normal pay.

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 17:26

I mean on top of 90% of normal pay!

surreygirl1987 · 07/03/2018 17:30

That's a big difference! Do everything in your persuasive powers I guess! Good luck :)

DaisyLand · 07/03/2018 17:32

My 1st dd was 7-04 but cuz I had a long ovulation (I conceived around day 18-19th) it was moved to 11-04.

Shaunieh95 · 07/03/2018 17:40

I had calculated my due date to be 1st April from my LMP, I then had a scan at 11+3 week where I was dated 30th March (would be more or less correct to my dates), I then had to have another scan at 12+3 as they had trouble measuring his Nuchal at the first scan, she then tried to measure baby again where she told me she couldn't 100% measurements as he was so active and kept lifting his spine, although she did what she could, my date changed at this scan and as moved back to 9th April!?!!

I was told I'd have growth issues due to very low Papp-A so am having growth scans. My EDD on all notes is 9th April as this is the latest date they went by and tried to tell me the first was incorrect, however all my growth scans and my bump are all measuring 'shock' a week infront, so first date would be right.

I'm yet to see what date he comes although am convinced the first date is correct!!

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 17:40

trouble is I don’t know when I ovulated, but it could well have been day 12 and not day 14, I got a first sign of a BFP quite early, day 22 I think!

Frazzled2207 · 07/03/2018 17:41

The sonographer will give a date based on size of baby. If it's not the date you want just explain to midwife who I'm sure will change it on your matb1 if you ask her nicely enough

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 17:43

Hopefully! My midwife is very relaxed with due dates, insists they will come when ready etc, so hopefully she won’t mind putting the date I want on my MATB1, if they aren’t obligated to go by scan date?

OP posts:
Zoey36 · 07/03/2018 17:46

I'm in a similar situation in that I absolutely know my dates but the baby measured ahead on the scan. This means I will lose a week's pay ( obviously not a bad as your situation op). But the date given at the scan is just what it is.. It's the Matb form that matters for work so I am just really hoping I can persuade the midwife who writes it. I've heard where some midwives sign it and let you fill it out yourself! Good luck!

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 18:09

@Zoey36 a weeks pay is a weeks pay! Good luck! Im really trying not to get my hopes up as I’ll be very disappointed if they change the date by 2 days, and midwife won’t budge for some reason. Will just have to wait and see..

Winifredgoose10 · 07/03/2018 18:52

I think the job of the sonographer is to record the gestation of the pregnancy based on the measurements taken that day. I would be extremely surprised if there was any flexibility. I'm sorry if it messes with your maternity pay, it would be bad luck.

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 07/03/2018 18:59

I'd check if an annual bonus is counted in this as I can't see a company paying out like you've suggested it would work.
