Do they always correct due date at dating scan?

Even if it is just a few days out from LMP dates. My LMP was 18th Dec 2017, which gives me a due date of 24th September. However I have a slightly shorter 26 day cycle, and last time they moved my due date forward by 3 days.

I really want to keep 24th September as due date on my MATB1 as it will make a HUGE difference to my SMP for the first 6 weeks. I'll get a bonus on 15th June which will be included in my qualifying weeks if my due date is after 23rd September. But it wont be included in the SMP calc if they move due date to 22nd September or earlier. The difference will be about £8.5k gross additional SMP, and will mean I can afford to take 9 or 10 months off work instead of just 6. It will be so disappointing if i lose out on this for the sake of one day. Do you think a sonographer will have any flexibility and be able to not change the dates? My scan is next week...

Knickers perfectly untwisted thanks. It matters to OP because she will lose a large chunk of money if her date is moved forwards by the correct definition.

Have a nice day.

My post was not confusing for the OP as I specified the dates. The word back or forwards in this context means nothing, when I've been clear about the dates themselves. Glad you've untwisted the knicks!

@fairgroundsnack I do get occupational mat pay, for a further 7 weeks (it would usually be 13 weeks contractual at normal, but if SMP works out to be more than contractual (which it will be a lot more if I’m lucky with dates) then I will get SMP instead. I’ll still get contractual for the next 7 weeks regardless and the won’t try to claw back from the first 6 weeks SMP.

Thanks @Pittcuecothecookbook if my due date is made earlier in the month then I will lose out! I need it to be the same or later than my current estimate of 24th Sep! (23rd will be ok, but 22nd Sept i will lose the 8k, and will need to accept going back 4 months earlier)

I'm sure if you explain to the midwife, he or she will be happy to adjust the DD. It's not an insubstantial amount of money! Fingers crossed for you!

I think the exact date matters if you happen to be one of the unlucky people who goes into labour around 22-24 weeks. Ie babies born at 22+6 are generally not resuscitated, 23+ might be depending on condition and parents wishes, 24+ are resuscitated. Not sure if this is completely up to date though so happy to be corrected.

Pompom42 · 08/03/2018 11:14

1st baby my due date was Aug 19th after first scan they changed it to Aug 13th so 6 days brought forward.
2nd baby my due date was Dec 31st and they never changed it after both scans

Just a quick update - i had my scan earlier this week (rearranged as DH was away), and they didn't bring my dates forward. They actually put me back by two days - so dates are great for my SMP calculation which will include my bonus, and i will be able to afford 3 months extra mat leave (9m instead of 6m). Happy days!

Excellent news!

Bojangles33 · 21/03/2018 18:33

So you'll get £8k EXTRA in the first six weeks? That's crazy.
