Do they always correct due date at dating scan?

Even if it is just a few days out from LMP dates. My LMP was 18th Dec 2017, which gives me a due date of 24th September. However I have a slightly shorter 26 day cycle, and last time they moved my due date forward by 3 days.

I really want to keep 24th September as due date on my MATB1 as it will make a HUGE difference to my SMP for the first 6 weeks. I'll get a bonus on 15th June which will be included in my qualifying weeks if my due date is after 23rd September. But it wont be included in the SMP calc if they move due date to 22nd September or earlier. The difference will be about £8.5k gross additional SMP, and will mean I can afford to take 9 or 10 months off work instead of just 6. It will be so disappointing if i lose out on this for the sake of one day. Do you think a sonographer will have any flexibility and be able to not change the dates? My scan is next week...

They moved mine both times.

coffeeforone · 07/03/2018 19:35

The bonus is definitely counted @SheSaidNoFuckThat , it’s part of the normal payslip in June. They have to include it if it falls within my qualifying weeks.

It doesn’t make much difference to the employer financially, they can claim most of it back from HMRC

I googled it, that's insane - hope it works out for you

Pittcuecothecookbook · 07/03/2018 21:48

Is this for statutory or contractual pay?

FranticallyPeaceful · 07/03/2018 22:09

mine has changed 3 times so far... so you can announce which one you choose, just tell the doctor or midwife to put on whichever date you like because they don’t care. It makes no difference, it’s an estimate

HanSpan1 · 07/03/2018 22:44

Mine was originally 5th sept at the 12 week scan, and then it moved to the 4th sept at the 13th week scan (had to go back a week later as baby was not in a good position for nuchal)

coffeeforone · 08/03/2018 07:18

@Pittcuecothecookbook it’s for Statutory pay!

OP posts:
Pittcuecothecookbook · 08/03/2018 07:29

I'm confused how it'll make a difference then. Stat pay is either 90% of your earnings or around £140 pwr week, whichever is lower. Am I missing something?

coffeeforone · 08/03/2018 07:45

It’s how they work out those earnings - 90% of your average weekly pay during a specific 8 week period (weeks 17 to 25 of pregnancy). I get a huge bonus on the last day of week 25 which will make my earnings and hence SMP much more. If they change my due date by a few days then the bonus will not be included in the average earnings calculation.

OP posts:
Celebelly · 08/03/2018 07:46

The first six weeks is 90% of your average weekly earnings. Only after that is it the lower amount of 90% v £140.

Celebelly · 08/03/2018 07:47

But after that initial six weeks, it's just £140.98 a week flat rate regardless of earnings.

coffeeforone · 08/03/2018 07:47

Yes I mean what @Celebelly said!

OP posts:
Celebelly · 08/03/2018 07:47

(Unless you earn less than that)

coffeeforone · 08/03/2018 07:48

It’s those first six weeks ifs going to make the difference

OP posts:
EmmaLema · 08/03/2018 07:50

Could you speak to your employer and ask if they'll change the pay date for your bonus?

coffeeforone · 08/03/2018 07:54

Speaking to my employer is another option, but the bonus needs to be paid with the monthly pay. If they change it it would mean pushing it forward to May, which would be perfect, but I don’t know if they would do that for just me and not everyone else. It’s always been June for year end/cash flow reasons.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 08/03/2018 08:06

So you'll get an extra £8k in that first 6 weeks? Wow. That's pretty incredible. Worth explaining to the midwife about the date if that's the case! She can only say no.

demirose87 · 08/03/2018 08:25

I've always had mine moved about 2 to 3 days back. The due date will be the one the sonographer measures as the one worked out earlier by the midwife is only an estimate. I wouldn't have thought they'd be able to alter your notes but it is worth asking. Good luck .

Pittcuecothecookbook · 08/03/2018 08:28

To be actually helpful, mine was also moved 3 days back from 13th to 10th

Buxbaum · 08/03/2018 08:40

Pittcue, that's forwards, not back. Your due date was moved forward in time (unless of course it was moved from 13 October to 10 November, but that's unlikely).

Pittcuecothecookbook · 08/03/2018 08:47

It was moved back from the 13th to the 10th of the same month... I'd consider that moving back from a date in the future personally...

fairgroundsnack · 08/03/2018 08:48

Explain to your midwife when she does the MATB1 form and I’m sure she’ll help. Do you get any occupational maternity pay? Only because a lot of places have wised up to thus and include a clawbacknof any bonus element from the first 6 weeks from the subsequent occupational maternity pay. If you only get statutory then they can’t do that.

Buxbaum · 08/03/2018 08:49

Pittcue, that doesn't make any sense. Time is linear. Movement away from the present day is backwards; movement closer to the present day is forwards. Your date was moved three days closer to the present day; it was moved forwards.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 08/03/2018 08:51

Ok, so you say bauxbaum. Very weird thing to seemingly get your knickers in a twist about. I'm counting back on a calendar, I'll call it going back three days. You can do what you like 😊
