New carpet

We've just had new carpet fitted in our living room, stairs and spare bedroom - I was sitting on the floor watching tv (as we haven't moved furniture back in yet) when I remembered something about new carpets giving off chemicals.
Quick Google reveals you're not supposed to have new carpets fitted during pregnancy. I had no idea and now super stressing 😞

I've never heard that? It's not something the midwives would ever warn you about so i really wouldn't worry, thousands of women have new carpets when pregnant. Stop googling!

ew1990 · 06/03/2018 20:18

I've never heard this! Sounds ridiculous to be honest

TheCatsMother44 · 06/03/2018 20:49

What?! I've never heard of that and so many people do DIY and finish off house renovations whilst pregnant, before baby arrives, so they must all be doing something wrong then.

I'm off to Google this as I've literally never heard such a thing.

TheCatsMother44 · 06/03/2018 20:52

Ok, so I've googled it and one newspaper article came up with one study that had said it. Everything else that came up was forum's like this one where people have worried unnecesserily too.

OP, stop stressing, you and your baby will be fine.

PurpleGuppy · 06/03/2018 20:52

Oh that's reassuring - I thought it was something everyone knew and I'd been really stupid.

Well, that's a new one on me and I recklessly had carpet fitted when pregnant with both of my kids, both are horribly normal with no lasting affects.

Daft as a very daft thing is that, clearly. Grin

Wtf? Why? I’m getting my entire house done on Friday. I’ve never heard this before.

readyforapummelling · 06/03/2018 20:59

I had my entire house re-carpeted when pregnant and my DD is as healthy as any 13 month old. If anything it's the other way round. Babies DESTROY lovely carpets whilst throwing spoonfuls of food around.

Your carpets should be scared, not your baby Smile

PurpleGuppy · 06/03/2018 21:34

That's very true about the carpets should be scared, DS has already drawn bright pink felt tip on freshly painted white walls Hmm

I never heard this and had our house carpeted top to bottom (only kitchen and bathroom untouched) when I was 8m pregnant and DD is absolutely fine x

cautiousoptimist1 · 07/03/2018 08:19

Never heard this before either! I had new living room carpet when expecting DD and new stairs carpet this time.

I even paced in the hall last time to protect my new carpet from my waters potentially breaking! Grin
