Brown spotting/discharge... worried!

Hi everyone.

I'm seven weeks gone with my first child, so being a first pregnancy (and me being a natural worrier anyway) EVERY little thing is a concern Grin

Anyway, I've had brown spotting/discharge for two days now. It will start in the morning but will stop by the afternoon. It's not really like blood, more like brown tinged discharge. There's not a lot of it (not even enough to fill a light panty liner) and like I said it's normally stopped by the afternoon only to start again in the morning. I put on a party liner when I went to bed last night just in case and there was nothing there when I woke up. Then when I went to the loo at about 10am there was a little bit, but I've not had anything else since.

It's kinda similar to what I normally get just before my period starts, although nowhere near as dark or heavy. I've worked out that if I wasn't pregnant my period would be due round about now, so perhaps that's got something to do with it?

There's no pink or red blood, and I'm not in any pain whatsoever, so I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about. But that doesn't stop me from BEING worried... Grin

Any advice would be appreciated!

Cheers! Flowers

Welcome to pregnancy!
Brown discharge at your week is pretty normal and expected. This is because your baby is attaching itself to you more, this is called implantation bleeding. It does look horrible and disgusting but it's nothing to worry about!
The second it is fresh blood, then call your midwife as soon as possible to get you an appointment straight away.

Thank you Blue, that's certainly reassuring! My morning sickness has kicked up a considerable notch in the past few days too, which can only be a good sign, albeit unpleasant for me! Grin

Yes just to echo what Blue has said, I had brown spotting from 6-8 weeks with both my DC. I had an early scan the first time and the sonographer said it's usually caused by further implantation.

ateapotandacake · 06/03/2018 21:00

Hi sorry implantation occurs earlier than 7 weeks, it’s misleading to say it could be that. Call your gp and let them know, if it gets heavier or you have pain you need to be seen to rule out ectopic pregnancy.

PlugUgly1980 · 06/03/2018 21:06

I had browny bloody discharge at the same point in both my pregnancies, even the odd spot of red blood. Only lasted a couple of days and never came to anything. Midwife said it's common to get it around the point your period would usually start in the month. I went on to have no more bleeding and two very healthy, full term babies.

I'm 10 weeks and have had implantation bleeding still to this day, every womb is different, every body is different actually. @ateapotandacake if it is brown, it's old blood which if it was anything to be concerned about would be bright red.

I had brown spotting from 5 to 16 weeks. DS is now 10 months. I had an early scan at 7 weeks to check all was ok. If your worried definitely call your gp/midwife

Sounds like implantation bleeding. I had it with both my pregnancies at about the same time. It stopped after 2-3 days.

PRT1901 · 16/11/2018 10:49

Hiya,

I am having this exactly now as you describe! I am 8 wks 3days today! What was your outcome? Thanks Smile
