Changing scan date.

Has anyone had any luck changing their 12 week scan date?

I’m booked in on 3rd April I’ll be 12w5d.
I’m really wanting to have the scan on the 29/30th so we can tell everyone on Easter Sunday.

Would I just call the booking line I called to get the date in the first place?
I haven’t had my booking in app yet that’s next week at 10 weeks.

Any advice would be great 😊

You can try, but they are unlikely to be able to accommodate it. They’re usually very busy.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 05/03/2018 11:00

I think it will really depend on how busy they are. Here (we are fairly rural) they only scan you on a friday because that's the only day there is a sonographer in the community hospital.

No harm in asking but possibly expect a no.

Matilda1981 · 05/03/2018 11:00

Just give them a call, it’s always worth asking! The worst they can say is no, they don’t have any appointments available!

MaverickSnoopy · 05/03/2018 11:02

I have just successfully changed my appointment. I needed to because I'm running a conference on the original date. I'm the only person that can do it in a company of 3 people (1 person is presenting and the other is overseas on that date). I told the GP when she booked the appointment and stated not that date but they booked it on that date anyway. So I phoned and explained and they were able to change it. I wouldn't however change it for your reasons. It was really quite hard for them to find me another appointment and they were only going to be able to find me later appointments (which would have meant missing the important screening stuff and seeing the MW instead). Thankfully they found one that meant I don't miss it. So if anything you may well get offered a later appointment, rather than an earlier one.

pastabest · 05/03/2018 11:03

Well really it's a medical appointment not a day out. I'm sure they would try their best to move things for you if you needed to change it for circumstances outside of your control but don't be surprised if you get short shrift if you try to change it for the reasons you have said above.

You can pay for a private scan if you want to know by a certain date which is what many people do if they don't want to wait for the NHS scan.

I had to change both my 12 and my 20 week scan date because they booked both on days that were really bad for my work - I rang up and politely asked if they could change them, making it clear that I understand it might not be possible, and they did it no problem. But I'm sure how easy it is to change depends on your own local hospital and how busy they are. I think the 30th is Good Friday, so they may well not be doing routine scans that day. No harm asking, though.

frasier · 05/03/2018 11:06

Any chance of going for a private scan? (You can still keep the nhs one so you don't have to mess about with getting records sent over.)

squiglyline · 05/03/2018 11:25

I have booked a private scan on 15th after our booking in appointment. As I’ll only be 10 weeks then and have mc before I don’t want to tell anyone until 12 weeks. I will call and ask. If they say no they say no.
Any day I need to take of work is hard as I’m a sole charge nanny and it messes up the parents days as well. The parents are off on 29/30th and the following Monday so would really be easier for everyone.

The 30th is good Friday so I’d be surprised if they’re running scans that day, but they may have a slot on the 29th. All you can do is ask.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 05/03/2018 11:34

It's worth a shot but as others said it totally depends on availability. Some areas are really busy. I managed to change mine last time but it was a genuine reason - I was booked in for around 13 weeks but an earlier scan due to bleeding showed I was about 10 days further along than my dates showed so I asked to bring it forward just in case I missed the screening window.

Smilingthru · 05/03/2018 15:25

I changed mine due to work commitment. Just rang the number on the letter and explained and they offered me an alternative. I did have to wait an extra week though instead of bringing it forward. X

coffeeforone · 05/03/2018 15:47

No harm in trying, I changed mine to three days later as my DH was away. They has no problem changing it.

Failing that, could you book another private scan on 30th?

MySockIsWetAgain · 05/03/2018 15:49

Why don't you move your private scan instead? This should be easier!

Brownbear84 · 05/03/2018 17:56

Move your private scan to the Thursday? Again they might be closed with it been good Friday xx
