Help! There was an outbreak of threadworms at my daughters nursery and our whole family took mebanzole (Vermox -5ml) but I was unknowingly pregnant. I’m now worried sick. I was 4 weeks pregnant / 2 weeks post fertilisation at the time. I’ve read everything I can on the internet but naturely there are not that many studies on this. Just wanted to know has this happened to any of you? Do any of you know anyone this has happened to? Did they have a healthy baby? TIA

Did you really treat everyone even though none of you had signs of it? At that stage I don't think the placenta would have formed so unlikely to cause issues

Thanks for your message. My daughter caught them in nursery.

Hi. Healthcare professional here (hospital pharmacist). Usually in the first trimester we’d recommend six weeks of intensive hygiene to eradicate the infection rather than medication. However, to put your mind at rest- despite there not being many studies, use of mebendazole in the first trimester doesn’t appear to be associated with any malformations- your midwife should be able to contact the local hospital/pharmacy medicines information service and they’ll be able to access the UKTIS (uk teratology information service)- if you’re worried and need more reassurance. Hope that helps!
