I am likely to need a c section. Just entering the third trimester now and read that it can be a good idea to take a daily probiotic as the baby will miss out on the bacteria they pick up with a vaginal birth. I had assumed with ds 1 that he would be coming out the standard way until I was told in the hospital to sign here you're off to surgery now, so there wasn't time to prepare, but this time I have advanced notice.

I have taken one daily since having DS 4 years ago. Currently take Acidophilus Plus+ capsules from the ‘just vitamins’ website. I find their prices v competitive.

Will it get through to the baby? (Genuine question)

There is some (mixed) evidence re: probiotics used to reduce allergies, both in utero and via breast milk. Couple of articles:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/24902123/
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/21543533/

DS was preterm/low birth weight and dh and I both have asthma/eczema so I thought it might help (it hasn’t, but I haven’t had a UTI or thrush since starting them, and there is increasing awareness of the important of gut health in lots of things).

I don't have a clue if it will work, but no risk in taking them so worth a go. Not much I can do about the method of entry into the world, but I can try this to prepare him

There's an optibac pregnancy and breastfeeding one that babies can have too.
