How to relieve back pain?

I'm 7weeks pg and an old back complication has just flared up. It's my discs in my lower back.

What can I do?? Sitting isn't comfortable, walking helps but we're snowed in! I don't have a hot water bottle and am aware hot baths aren't recommended 😔

Anyone found anything that helps? TIA 🙂

You can still have a warm bath/shower as long as it's not super hot, tbh that advice is so that you yourself don't feel faint in the heat/get dehydrated not because there's a risk to baby so I think if you use your common sense you can decide when a bath is too hot, I mean if it's so hot it's making you dizzy then obviously it's too hot.

Otherwise, you can treat heat or cold gels that you can apply to your back, or heat patches applied to the sore area of your back. I would really recommend a hot water bottle tbh though, they're cheap after all. The other main thing I'd normally advise keeping mobile and gentle stretching, you can find stretches online, Youtube have lots of videos of stretching for pregnant women however this is mainly based on mild soft-tissue pain and I don't know the extent or cause of your pre-existing back pain so I'd probably recommend chatting to your GP about it first before you embark on any stretching/exercise just on the off chance that it's not appropriate for your condition, don't want to end up doing more harm than good. You can also take paracetamol for pain if needed.

I came on to say hot water bottle. Tbh its the best thing i found. Also with both my pregnancies i have a similar problem to you. My back flared up at the beginning of the pregnancy 1st trimester and then after baby was born it was better and didn't really start playing up till recently- my youngest is 5 - so here's hoping! Also how old is your mattress and is it an orthopaedic one, one of the best things I found for my back was getting a new orthopaedic mattress.

Thank you both 🙂 I'm already looking forward to a bath later! Just hope this snow thaws!
