Just back from a night in our local pub, I’ve steered clear of Diet Coke as I’d already reached my caffeine limit today so instead opted for Schweppes Orange Juice - thinking all was good but just got home and googled to find I have to be careful drinking OJ that isn’t pasteurised??? I had no idea??? OJ wasn’t on the ‘avoid’ list of no-no’s during pregnancy that my midwife gave me????? X

Please unclench or you’ll be in for a long, long ride

I suspect any juice you would buy from a pub will have been pasteurised as it will need a long shelf-life. Fresh juices have to be sold within 14 days, so unlikely to be in a pub fridge!

Just stick to the NHS advice. Much more straightforward. Stay away from dr Google!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 02/03/2018 23:31

Anything that comes in a bottle or can will have been pasteurised as part of the packaging process.

SnowBusinessLikeSlowBusiness · 02/03/2018 23:33

You can drink any orange juice and whatever diet coke you want. The unclench advice is good advice!

Thelampshadelady · 03/03/2018 00:37

I wouldn’t worry. During my pregnancy I’ve had unpasteurised OJ. I didn’t realise until I’d drunk it.
I’m not aware of the pasturing process but surely, if I had eaten a load of oranges it would be the same? I don’t know, but I’m not concerned.

DetectiveDog · 03/03/2018 00:47

Stop googling! If you’ve got a list from the midwife then just use that! OJ is fine.

Thanks for the advice - Apologies to those I’ve offened by being too uptight but after two miscarriages in the last year it kind of makes you a tad more nervous of doing anything wrong - I am praying this pregnancy will be successful.

I feel you on the miscarriage from OP but I lost my babies when I didn’t do anything wrong but my healthy ones were when I was much more relaxed about the whole thing. Honestly, you’ll be fine.

The thing is, stress is much more damaging than orange just do you really do need to try and let it go.

BrutusMcDogface · 03/03/2018 10:36

Sounds like your anxiety levels are higher than they should be, even with previous miscarriages. I've had Mc before and wasn't worried about orange juice and dominos pizza. Perhaps mention it to your midwife.
