Hello everyone

I have my scan booked for a few weeks time when i'll be 13 weeks. I can't wait but have just read this:>>>>>

"""Most obstetric departments are now using vaginal probes in early pregnancy because they give a clearer image and the results are more accurate. The probe, which only causes a minimal amount of ?pressure? discomfort, doesn?t harm the baby. """

on a pregnancy site, PLEASE tell me that they don't do this it your first scan
(Sorry, am wuss but HATE internals of any kind and am SO worried now)

I think by early pregnancy they mean 6-7 weeks, not 12-13. I'm sure it will be a normal trans-abdominal scan. Don't panic!!

Don't worry, they only go inside for very early scans. Dating scan will be fine. I had an emergency scan at 9 weeks and that was on me belly too, so it's really only for very early ones. I'm 30 weeks and no-one has been down there yet!!! phew!!

Didn't have this during my pregnancy but had it before... It's not that bad, didn't hurt at all really. No where near as bad as having those speculums up there, ew! Imagine a slightly oversized (ohh, I hope that isn't a reflection on my DP!!!) vibrator and you won't go too wrong just in case you do have to have it, which I wouldn't of thought you did. Good luck!!

My booking scan was abdo (and, idiotically, they gave me an abdo scan when I thought I was 7 weeks pg - but was only 5). Internal scans aren't too bad - and have the huge advantage of having to have an empty bladder beforehand!

PHEW thanks everyone!!

lol at Flossam+ I had an internal scan a few years ago and it didn't hurt, i just hate the thought of it!!!

The only time i can bear it is when i'm in too much pain to care,(or obviously if there was a problem!).

Angeliz, you'll be fine at 13 weeks...I didn't need an internal one even at 8.5 weeks, and as Flossam says they're really not that bad anyway.
