I want to get pregnant but I'm overweight. Is it safe to lose weight whilst pregnant?

Midwives recommend Slimming World in pregnancy. I think they have specific plans for pregnant women.

Hi. I'm pregnant and on slimming world however my midwife told me at my booking in appointment that I was to maintain my weight and not lose. Just to make sure I eat healthily. When pregnant, slimming world say to follow the usual plan but to have an extra A choice and an extra B choice so basically more calcium and fibre. I'd recommend joining a slimming world club now before you get pregnant as it's better for you and your future baby if your weight is lower. I'm still 3 and half stone above my target and wish I was already there as I'm dreading putting on weight over the next 6 months.

I thought I overheard someone at group say it was free if pregnant too? I might be wrong....

I've had to pay so it might only be true in some areas of the country

I was slightly overweight and lost weight to ttc my ds.
It was such good motivation, knowing I was doing it to ttc. the best motivation I’ve ever had to loose weight far more than fitting into bridesmaid dress or such like.
I would try and get to a healthy weight first or even just a bit closer to your ideal weight, if you can delay ttc for a few months. Obviously I don’t know your age and other circumstances.
I was glad I’d done it before as well as healthy eating in first trimester was hard with sickness early on in the pregnancy all I wanted was carbs which stopped me feeling so sick and faint, but i did put 2 stone on overall.
I conceived ds quite quickly as well and I think it was because I was in good shape.

I've been having a good old google about this as I was loosing weight b4 getting pregnant and only 7lbs off making sure I wont end up consultant led.

I was hoping to be able to diet up to my booking in but the overall advice is not to do a calories restricted diet while pregnant. So I wont.

I'd recommend looking at your diet while ttc as in honesty, I think it can really help conceiving. But if you want to be a certain weight you should try and get to it b4 getting pregnant.
