hi all,

I'm 28 weeks and for the past week or so I keep waking up feeling VERY uncomfortable! Pain is usually lower back but sometimes even extends round the sides of the bump etc...Now, I tend to sleep on my side and I've been experimenting with supporting pillows all over the place - I've even tried putting one of those curved feeding cushions a friend gave me between my knees to try and support bump and back but it seems nothing is working - I wake up a few times in the night in agony and I'm worried that it's a sign I might be getting into damaging positions (ie rolling onto stomach/back in attempts to get comfortable!) Is it just one of those pregnancy things, or should I be concerned/trying other methods to fix this? Advice greatly appreciated!

Hi Glitter

I had something very similar with my ds. I ended up surrounded with about 100 pillows and when even that wasn't comfy I resigned myself to sleeping half the night in bed then the rest downstairs propped up on the sofa. I even took pillows and a single duvet down so was lovely and cosy. Have to say that worked really well and although every night was broken up I ususally got 2 really good comfy stretches.

Hope that helps

I lay on left side, with pillow under bump to support the weight, pillow between knees and one behind me to stop me rolling over (hah! like it was that easy to roll!).
Also tried sitting up propped up by lots of pillows - more due to heartburn though.

Hi - have you also tried padding the mattress with a duvet or similar under the bottom sheet? This helped me.

Been having the same problem! Was alleviated for a while by putting an extra pillow under my head. Now there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to make it go away! Might have to sleep on my birthing ball!

Similar problem at 35 weeks here. Well it started ages ago but is now worse! (Sorry)
I don't know if it's having too soft a mattress as it feels the same way as when I slump on the sofa then try to get up.
I'm worse if I sleep on my back as it seems to curve the spine round at the base, so try to stay on one side (left is best for baby, apparently).
I wish I could offer more help! Don't know if I can cope with 5 more weeks of exhaustion!!
