Not due until next week, but feel so unbelievably nauseous and knackered that I'm wondering . It's possible because I stopped the mini pill a couple of months ago, but still haven't quite convinced dh that we should go for no 3, so we've not been aiming for the right day IYSWIM.

Should I be scoffing folic acid and eating properly or just live in blissful ignorance for another few days? I've had a few drinks and eaten all the wrong stuff.

And when did pg tests get so expensive????

potential congrats...yes be good!!!

lulumama · 04/05/2007 14:00

you should take folic acid when TTC and for the first trimester

don;t stress too much re food, try to eat well, and cut down /avoid alcohol and smoking (if applicable!) and wait and see !!

i bought the asda pregnancy tests, were not too bad!

NomDePlume · 04/05/2007 14:00

I wouldn't worry too much, so long as you avoid going on a pate, smack & vodka binge out then you should be fine

Didn't know supermarkets sold them now!

I've just found an ancient packets of preggy vits in the cupboard from dd's pg - hope they're still in date..

I love the way NDP puts pate before smack & vodka, it's certainly the one I miss most of the 3!
I was very virtuous before I tested this pg, eating even more than my 5 fruit & veg a day, folic acid, almost no drink etc, unfortunately once the MS kicked in it's been frosties & coke all the way. Kept off the vodka & smack tho' have sneaked a couple of peanuts early on but even refraining from them completely now.
Hope you get a good result & aren't totally off your face when you find out.

When I was ttc first time round I was good each time I was due on for the first five months then about a few days before I was due on again we went to France for a long weekend. Well you have to eat soft cheese, pate, drink wine and liquours in France don't you? I had slight period type pains so just assumed that I would come on and of course didn't. I didn't let it worry me though and dd seems perfectly fine.

folic acid - yes, def

other things (food/drink to avoid in pregnancy) - nah, too early to be an issue

cece · 05/05/2007 15:01

I was two weeks late before I tested with DD. In that time I had been hideously drunk at least twice and eaten brie, stilton... oh and also went up in an unpressurised aircraft. She is fine

bobsmum · 08/05/2007 16:23

Still being good and feeling bleurgh - just waiting til Friday now .

Well, if you are off the pill you should really be taking folic acid already. By the time you know you are pg it is really getting a bit late. I suppose the answer is yes, ideally you should knock off the booze.

percypig · 08/05/2007 16:31

Signs sound hopeful, I'd test now, but then I enjoy testing, even when I really know it's going to be negative.

I tested 3 days before I was due with a cheapy ASDA test and got a faint positive (was in the evening too) Have since tested another 5 times (am now 7+5)!

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 16:31

Avoid all A class drugs. At all times.

bobsmum · 08/05/2007 16:36

"knock off the booze" - I've had 2 glasses of wine in the last 3 weeks - am I in more trouble than I thought? I know the guidelines are a bit different now.

Have been taking pg vits since I posted the OP. Was taking them through b/f.

Are probiotic drinks ok to take?

Came off the pill to get it out of my system really and it's made such a huge difference to my moods. Wasn't sure I should be dosed up with hormones for such a long time. Obviously if I'm pg now - my moods are going to get a whole lot more interesting.

I read in the paper (Guardian I thiink)about 6 months ago, that all women of the age of conception (?-wine!) are considered to be pre-pregnant. i.e considering the need to be extra cautious in medical situations, etc., but women have been convicted of harming thier baby (through drug use etc.)whilst pregnant.

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 20:30

Sorry, very badly phrased. This was in America.

Aloha · 08/05/2007 22:55

God no, I wouldn't say the odd glass of wine was a bad thing at all. I'd just avoid getting completely hammered...(did I mention the hideous hangover I had when I tested positive for dd? ) And I say that largely becuase otherwise you spend the whole pregnancy feeling vaguely guilty and paranoid. DD is remarkably brilliant and beautiful btw!
I never 'aimed for the right day'. I think it's overrated. Didn't stop me conceiving though.
Also, have you told your dh that you arent' usign contraception any more? If you have, then I'd say that actually you have convinced him to go for no3!

ChocolateFace · 08/05/2007 23:17

My DH said "muttering something about comming off the pill isn't the same as planning a baby"

flightattendant · 09/05/2007 08:44

Hmm well last time I had an anti-tetanus shot when I'd just conceived, obviously I didn't know if I had or not...(don't ask, something to do with gravel burns on my back ) and DS seems to be Ok!
Also had my first Kebab. And smoked my first whole cigarette. Next day I got a + and went on to crave fags throughout Pg#1 when I'd never been able to stomach them much before...I didn't actually have any more though...
This time I ate brie when I was about 7 months, that was stupid, I keep doing stupid things. I think it may have given me listeria too. But nobody would believe me so I'm hoping baby2 is Ok...

(not neurotic or anything)

bobsmum · 09/05/2007 12:17

I'm off to Asda today to buy a cheapy test and some more preggy vits.

Dh is definitely coming round to the idea - said something last night along the lines of 'well we do make gorgeous babies" and "Well I'll have the snip after no3" - sounds like he's quite keen!

So I suspect even if I'm not this month that I'll be staying off the pill.

Just need to start eating more healthily and stop skipping breakfast

So, have you tested bobsmum? Am v nosey!

Tell us when you test.

bobsmum · 09/05/2007 15:32

Nope am stalling - dd still asleep so can't get out yet - nearest supermarket is 50 mins drive away. Need Weetabix though so maybe I should justify a little trip
