Hormonal headaches - any advice?

Hi all, I'm 16 weeks and have been getting increasingly bad headaches since around wk 13. I'm used to hormonal headaches, but was on beta blockers for them prior to pregnancy, and if I got any some ibuprofen and codeine used to sort them out. Now I have a general lingering pain in front temple and sinuses, usually worse one side or the other, which every few days gets worse and worse to the point where I can barely move. Getting myself to the toilet is a struggle! I'm drinking loads (hence too frequent toilet trips) have tried hot and cold, on their own and alternately. Lying completely still in a dark quiet room helps to ease the agony to a dull thump when it's at it's worst, but generally I just have to wait until it eases, which can be 24-48hrs.
Any advice would be very very welcome, including anyone who has experienced similar with nice stories of how they go away very soon! Hmm

Thanks all,
Jess

I had horrible headaches when pregnant, they were really debilitating so you have my sympathy.

I took paracetamol at the maximum dose allowed, used the 4head stuff and the cooling migraine strips, put a hot beanbag thing round the back of my neck and had a full fat caffeinated coke. It too the edge off a bit. Caffeine was one I hadn't thought off but it does something to the blood vessels or something!

Mind did ease off at about 20 weeks so fingers crossed you get some respite soon! Good luck!

Thanks! Paracetamol do nothing, and even codeine (which doc said was ok for now) didn’t touch it, I actually feel worse after taking anything! The cooling strips were ok, but they warm up too quick. Might try the heat pad on back of neck thing, that sounds nice! I’ve been steering clear of caffeine completely, it’s usually a headache trigger, but I’m willing to try anything and found some Pepsi in the drawer so will give that a go in the morning. Thank you! I really hope it goes before 20weeks though. Confused

Sorry to jump on the thread.
@Sunshinegirl82 did caffeinated coke really help? I've been having headaches behind my eyes now for about a month now, every Monday -Wednesday/Thursday without fail! Funnily enough since I've had less caffeine?!
4head is a life saver and really takes the edge off but it's getting very tedious now!!

Bluebirdsky · 01/03/2018 20:13

I had these too, if it's any consolation I am 23 weeks and they have gone away.
I bought and ice pack thing off of amazon and used that with plenty of 4head. I put the ice on the back of my neck which helped too.
I also bought some headache balm from a company called herbs on the hill which was also quite helpful.
Make sure you at drinking lots of water and rest is the only other things that helped me.
None of these things got rid of it unfortunately, but they did help.
Hope you feel better soon x

It did seem to help me! Everyone is different but if you're within the daily limits for caffeine then I think it's worth a go!

0310Star · 01/03/2018 21:28

I've just asked my boyfriend to go get some cans of full fat coke to test it out Grin
I don't have any caffeine now really as I've gone off tea completely... one of my most favourite drinks!!

I am 20+2 now so I'm hoping it will pass. As annoying as it is, I was so ill until about 16 weeks with sickness etc that it's definitely an improvement!

Also suffering (14 weeks) have had them since 8 weeks! Planning on getting some coke and hope that helps. Hope it works for you ladies and you don't suffer for too long.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 02/03/2018 00:30

Only thing helped me was the 4 head stuff all over head and behind ears, cold gel all over me k, a full fat coke and a sleep

Then it goes eventually...

I suffered with horrendous headaches similar to what your describing where I felt like I couldn’t even move my head. They aren’t as often now I’m nearly 22 weeks but I can’t recommend the 4hea stuff enough. I would put so much in my eyes would literally water 🙈 definitely helped tho! Hope they clear up soon for you xx
