If the babies head had dropped into your pelvis could Labour be imminant?

Discovered yesterday after a growth scan that the babies head was really low in my pelvis. So it had totally dropped down, though my bump looks and feels the same to me.

Does this mean the baby is imminent? or silly question and 'it could be any time' sort of thing still?

Not a midwife but I've had four kids. With my first the baby was low for a good while, but with the others the time between baby dropping and labour was shorter.

Hope you don't have to wait too much longer.

Bigpizzalover · 27/02/2018 14:48

My baby was head down from 27 weeks and had dropped into my pelvis about 37/38 weeks, had her at 40+4. But everyone is different x

Makingworkwork · 27/02/2018 14:49

Dropped as in engaged or just hanging around low in your pelvis?

scaredofthecity · 27/02/2018 14:50

I was engaged from about 36 wks... DS was evicted at 42+2. All it meant was false hope.

Lilonetwo · 27/02/2018 14:51

Not necessarily. Mine was very low (I think she said 2/5 engaged) from 34 weeks but baby didn't come until 40 weeks.

How many weeks are you?

Potteryprincess30 · 27/02/2018 15:05

Thanks @yellowplumpreserves, it's all good this end, physically feeling really good, i'm just being impatient and over eager to meet her

@Bigpizzalover similar scenario here so although my last was a week early I could have a good week left then it seems

@Makingworkwork she has been low from 34 weeks but has no engaged it seems from their info yesterday.

@scaredofthecity I thought as much! it's going to be at least another week isn't it Hmm

@Lilonetwo I'm 39 weeks, sorry should have put that bit in really. Seems most babies do come by 40 weeks though statistically so I am thinking this could be my last week baby free Smile

Sorry, mine was 4/5 engaged from about 32 weeks, he still didn't make his appearance until 40+4.

My midwife said first babies who engage can be there for ages as they can get sort of trapped in the engaged position as the muscles are quite tight. Subsequent babies should in theory be able to pop back out of the pelvis as they aren't held so tightly.

You could check out the labour odds on the spacefem site? That helped me when I started wondering if I was going to be pregnant forever and ever.

alltalknobaby · 27/02/2018 15:18

Nope. Mine was low and engaged for weeks and I still ended up being induced at 41+5. Good luck!

Potteryprincess30 · 27/02/2018 15:20

@GummyGoddess it's definitely easy to occasionally think you may become the first woman who's been pregnant forever. Although fleeting, I think that at least once a day for...er about 4 months Grin

It's a second baby but an 8 year gap so I wasn't sure if this new development meant I could only have a few days or something. I try not to google these things and use the wisdom of mumsnet, so much better and so much more reliable advice frankly

It's also disorientating as it's snowing here in Bristol so has basically become winter again, which makes me feel like i've gone back in time pregnancy wise to December Confused

It didn't help when remembering our NCT teacher was telling us about a facebook group of women who get to 10 months of pregnancy. I was bouncing up and down on the ball, going for miles of walks, doing reflexology, scrubbing floors and it still didn't seem to help! DH sent me an article on a woman who was allegedly pregnant for a year before giving birth and wondered why I was cross with him Grin

Potteryprincess30 · 27/02/2018 15:59

Oh my god @GummyGoddess , lol! As for your DH, he was lucky you were pregnant and low on energy otherwise he may have got something thrown at him Grin
