I don’t know to be honest because I’ve never had a dr apt for a pregnancy, just went straight to midwife for the booking in at 8 weeks.

They will probably just refer you to the MW and check you’re taking folic etc.

TheHeartOfTeFiti · 26/02/2018 21:22

Most areas you don’t need to see your doctor just self refer to mw

zaalitje · 26/02/2018 21:25

My dr doesn't want to see you if newly pregnant, they don't do any tests or confirm as home tests are so accurate.

My first appt was with midwife who did history, healthcheck, bloods etc and referred for scan.

Did you tell them what appt was for ?

Never seen a doc for pregnancy. Have always rang surgery, told them I’m pregnant and they’ve booked me in with midwife.

yikesanotherbooboo · 26/02/2018 21:29

At our surgery the Dr does wish to see you. They ask a few questions, check you are on folic acid and give you the mw details

@zaalitje yeeeh they know I'm pregnant. I think it's because I'm a student and I'm at university maybe?xxxx

@Swishswish95, I'm a student as well and never saw a doctor. Just a midwife.

With my first I had to see doctor first and then she booked me in to midwife. For some reason my doctors have to refer you

Swishswish95 · 26/02/2018 22:17

@Winchester13 I think it's the same at mine how long a wait did you have for a midwife xx

I think I had my booking in appointment at 8 weeks. I am only about 6 weeks atm but want to see a midwife as I have had brown spotting/ bleeding and have been worried x

Winchester13 · 26/02/2018 22:20

And don’t be nervous at the booking in appointment they just fill in paperwork and ask lots and lots of questions! X

Lentilbaby · 26/02/2018 22:30

Didn't see a GP either

Speedy85 · 27/02/2018 08:15

I went to the GP. They didn’t test as the home tests are so reliable nowadays, they just checked a bunch of lifestyle factors etc (smoking, drinking, medication). I still found it useful.

You won’t get a midwife appointment until after you’ve missed two periods (8 weeks) because the risk of miscarriage goes down from ~25% to ~5% between 4 and 8 weeks.
