Heartbeat at 7 weeks?

I've just realised I've booked my early scan for when I will be only 7+2. It will be transabdominal.

Really want to see the heartbeat so wondering if it would be sensible to move it until 8 weeks?

Has anyone seen a heartbeat at 7 weeks with a transabdominal scan?

Oh I've only ever had transvaginal at that stage and have always seen a heartbeat. But I don't know about transabdominal. I think if you can move it, I would. Unless you're having a scan for an urgent reason, like abnormal bleeding. But hopefully someone else will come along with better advice.

Sometimes if baby is still low in pelvic bone they need to do a TV scan to get a clear picture.
At 7 weeks there's a chance this would still be the case.

I did. I had an early scan at between 6 and 7 weeks (probably nearer 7) 16 years ago with a transabdominal scan and they found a heartbeat. I found the pics the other daySmile.

Thanks all, they've told me to drink a litre of water two hours before, I presume to lift baby out of the pelvis.

Think I'm going to stick with the early date. Seems to be ok from what I've read. Arghhh - nerve wracking.

They should have a wand as well so could switch to the vaginal one if necessary. You’ll want them to find the heartbeat any way possible so you might not mind much

That's a good point @jaffajiffy. I'm paying for a private scan but at an NHS specialist antenatal hospital so presume that'll have the wand too.

Might ring tomorrow and check.

The midwife saw the heartbeat transabdominal when I was 6+5 but she did a trans vaginal scan with it to give me more reassurance. So at 7 weeks id say there's a good chance. Smile

We saw a heartbeat at 6+1... I didn't go that early out of choice I thought I was 7+4 Hmm

Amazing feeling, enjoy x

I had a private scan on Sunday at 6+6 and they found the heartbeat straight away with an abdominal scan. I drank over a litre in the hour before the scan and she said my bladder was totally full which really helped. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. Think I'm going to go for it!

I had to have an abdominal scan due to bleeding when I was 6+2, they could see the heartbeat then :)

I saw a heartbeat at 7+2 on an abdominal scan x
