Bump measuring small at 32 weeks - what does it mean?

I've just seen my doctor for a routine check-up as I've not been able to get an appointment with my local midwife for a couple of weeks. My doctor thinks my bump is measuring small - 30cms, rather than the 32 it should be. I'm about 32 weeks pregnant. She was a bit worried about this and wants me to see the midwife asap (surprise surprise - no appointments for three weeks) so has managed to get an emergency one for next Tuesday. She said I might need another scan to check everything was OK. I'm a bit confused. Is it just to check the baby's growing properly? Any info gratefully received...

Pretty much yes, to check all is well and baby is still growing be it slowly. I was small for dates with ds and my mw gave a sharp intake of breath at my last few appointtments, told me to take it easier, but no referraly . As it was he was 9 12 at term, bigger than both my brother and I had been so probably more genetic than anything. dd was 10 days overdue and only 9 13 ! Try not to panic, good luck.

I wouldn't be too concerned, I had a similar measurement around that stage and the midwife said it was just because the baby was lying across - transverse, they call it - so the top few cms of uterus felt empty!
I'm not sure if a GP would pick up on this so don't be too worried.
Hope it's all fine - I think a couple of cms here or there isn't usually a major cause for panic.
