Bump

I've just been reading a thread on AIBU, a lady feeling frustrated that her DP hasn't bought anything for baby and she's 17 weeks along. This isn't anything to do with that discussion but there's been some really sharp 'you won't even have a bump yet' and 'are you even showing' type comments. I am most definitely showing and am 18 weeks this weekend. Is that not normal? It's smaller in the morning then bigger as day goes on but it's definitely there and not going anywhere. Or am I just being too greedy and have made myself fat? I've not put on weight anywhere else. Just my belly, not where I normally carry it! I'm feeling a bit paranoid now....it's my first pregnancy.

If it’s any consolation I’m getting a bump and il only 11 weeks but it is my third! I was definitely in maternity clothes by my first scan first time around so I wouldn’t worry! You’re pretty much half way so I’d be surprised if you didn’t have a bump!

Ignore the witches on that thread.

And be proud of your bump. Everyone shows at different times. I definitely had a bump at that point but some people won't and that's fine too.

Oh thank you! I was convincing myself I need to start a diet or something so I'm not huge by July. I quite like my bump, I don't really want to hide it!

Yep I popped at 14 weeks was deffo bump as everyone noticed. Currently 20 weeks and look much further along 😊

BrutusMcDogface · 22/02/2018 18:25

I'm nearly 20 weeks and have a bump- it's my fourth, though! Everyone is a different size. Why would someone spitefully say that because she hasn't got a bump she shouldn't be buying stuff. Each to their own! I'm sure you look fab!

As you can see, I definately have a bump!!Grin

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and one of my classes (teacher) have quizzed me on the fact that I'm looking fat and am I pregnant this week!

meow1989 · 22/02/2018 18:30

I had what I thought was a bump but for me was mostly bloating until 17 weeks then I popped with a vengeance ( initially looked a tiny bit smaller when bloat went) 23 weeks tomorrow and thing my boy is hanging out towards the front as I look like I've swallowed a basket ball 🤭

Different people show at different times, no one can tell you your body is doing it wrong!

BuffalotheGruffalo · 22/02/2018 18:32

@GemmaLL your bump looks the same size as mine!

I was uncomfortable from about 12 weeks but to be fair my clothes were tight before I got pregnant so just the early pregnancy bloat pushed me into leggings quite quickly.

Ive been worried as I have hardly any bump
and every time I see photos of women at 18wks they all have clearly-visible-to-a-stranger bumps.

I have looked on Instagram at woman tagging themselves and I have the ‘what to expect’ pregnancy app- this morning I saw a thread of pictures of women posting their 17/18/19/20 weeks bumps. Most of the women have lovely mid sized bumps!

BrutusMcDogface · 22/02/2018 18:42

I have to say, when I was 18 weeks with my first baby, you wouldn't have known I was pregnant at all. My belly stuck out a little but only to me, really. Looking back at pics and I didn't have a bump at all. Again- everyone is different!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 22/02/2018 19:01

At 18 weeks both times my "bump" has largely been bloating. And both times you couldn't really tell unless you knew. But everyone's body is different, although Id say that truly showing at 4 months with a first pregnancy is quite unusual. Normally your stomach muscles are still tight enough to hold everything in first time round!

MeadowHay · 22/02/2018 19:18

I had a little bump at 18 weeks but it was still only noticeable to me and DH I think. I'm 23 weeks now and only in the past week or so is it actually noticeable for other people I think. Even now if I wear a big loose jumper you wouldn't be able to tell. This is my first pregnancy and I was a size 8-10 pre-pregnancy. Everyone is different

BuffalotheGruffalo · 22/02/2018 19:45

There's definitely a feeling of bloat with it too. Some evenings it's been huge because of it and had felt really uncomfortable and I've been a bit constipated which doesn't help one bit. Like I say it changes as the day goes on but it's definitely always there now and I'm not downgrading my maternity trousers anytime soon from here on in. Tops are fine. Just anything putting a bit of pressure on my lower belly is so uncomfortable.

With my first pregnancy I did not have a bump till I was 6 mths.

I am 5ft 7 tall with a long back. Midwife said I have more room to carry baby inside so it does go alot on height also.
I had a definite bump by about 20 wks with 2nd but my bump still only measured 30 cm at 40wks.
Am 12+6 now and getting thick round the middle. Just looking fat and bloated lol
We are all different and bumps will be different shapes and sizes ignore the trolls and enjoy it ladies.
