12 week scan tomorrow - terrified!

Hi ladies,
Just after some advise on how to relax before your 12 week scan..I had a scan at 9 weeks (private) and was fine until two days ago. I want to be excited but keep analysing having no symptoms and my belly has disappeared. I know that it was more than likely bloat as I’m not even past 12 weeks yet but I’m nervous :(
Although the scan at 9 weeks went ok, I thought it should be 10 as we were using clear blue ovulation kits. However, he dated me at 9. He kind of brushed over this and said well
You’ll get the proper dating scan in a few weeks, but can’t get it out of my head..took us a year to conceive and just desperately want to relax but just find myself sitting on google researching mmc :(

Try not to worry, I know it’s easier said than done but remember:

MMC at 12 weeks are very rare, something like 1%-2%.

The risk of miscarriage after a healthy 9 week scan is less than 5%.

It is therefore overwhelmingly likely that your baby is fine!

I also had no symptoms after about 7 weeks and it really scared me but it’s very normal.

As for the rest I am not a doctor but you still have your baby inside you so there’s no reason that your bump would go due to any problem with the pregnancy. And 9 or 10 weeks, it depends on so many things, how long it takes your body to ovulate after a positive OPK, how soon the egg implanted etc... my dates didn’t match up either and I charted so I knew exactly when I ovulated.

I know none of this is a guarantee and nothing will stop you worrying before tomorrow but it’s very unlikely anything is wrong. I know it’s a very stressful time and I wish you the best for tomorrow - do come back and update!

I wouldn't worry about no symptoms.
Apart from heartburn and pelvic pain(which have only come on in the last couple of weeks) I had next to nothing in the way of symptoms and I'm now 32 weeks.

I was absolutely terrified before my scan as I had no symptoms whatsoever. Nothing! And that was ok. Good luck, I loved seeing my little one on the scans.

Thanks so much :) those stats and your comments make me feel much better :)

I had an early scan at 10 weeks because of moderate bleeding and was dated 9. At 12 weeks scan back to the original dates. Sonographer said foetus is so small that measuring a week out is like one extra pixel and not anything to worry about.

I was terrified that there wouldn't be anything there at my 12 week scan because all I'd literally got to go off was one positive pregnancy test 6 weeks before. Its so normal to be scared but if you've had no symptoms of anything going wrong since your last scan there's every chance you're going to see that little heart beating away on the screen! Try not to worry and enjoy every second Flowers
As for the dates, they never make sense so don't get too hung up on them Smile

How did it go OP?

Where I'm from you don't get your firat scan until 20 weeks +. I never felt pregnant, zero symptoms and the tiniest bump that could be considered eating too much over the weekend. I booked a private scan at 14 +4. I closed my eyes and wouldn't look at the screen. Until I heard the lady say look at your little baby. Omg, the best most amazing feeling in the world.

Good luck with the scan Flowers

I was a total mess before my 12 weeks scan because I'd started to feel better and was convinced I'd had a mmc. Everything was perfect on the scan I'd worked myself up for no reason at all! You have my full sympathy though I know it's scary. But remember the odds are in your favour, it's most likely that everything will be fine. Good luck for the scan I hope it puts your mind at ease xxx
